Greetings! I'm Bruce Hodges. My native American name is Wulaptonachgat, translated "Good News." I host "The Night Ride With Bruce Hodges," a radio show - actually, a FAMILY - every weekday night from 11:06 PM to 6:00 AM ET. I believe in family and, for the last five years have built and developed this family of an estimated 1.7 million folks in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee via FM signal on 98.1, and countless numbers of folks worldwide via live stream at blueridgecountry98.com. The Night Ride experience combines upbeat music, breaking news, humor and wisdom to get the family "safely through the night." We also seek to assist unknown, or lesser known, country artists whose talents and skills are excellent to have a venue for their art which we hope may lead to well-deserved discovery.Many of my listeners have asked me to describe myself as to my philosophies and beliefs. I can think of little that could be more boring (except to me, of course), yet I choose the myspace venue for doing just that. I wear several different hats: radio host, junior college professor (humanities & social sciences), minister and pastoral counselor. I'm very blessed as a husband, father and grandfather.I'm not religious at all, yet I'm highly spiritual believeing that where there is faith, doubt and fear is no longer necessary; And where there is knowledge, faith is no longer necessary. Through my experiences of grace time after time, I have knowledge of my Lord Christ Jesus as God's offering of ultimate grace to His people by way of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. I'm adamant about that for myself, yet just as adamant concerning the God-given right for each person to choose whom they will follow. I believe that in granting this choice, God places the tools within each person's hands with which to fashion their penultimate and ultimate destiny. I believe in prayer as a privilege that taps a source of power always outside our understanding, yet never beyond our reach. I believe that Christ taught us to affirm our spirituality and to spiritually turn to Him. I also believe that He taught us to abhore religion. In my view, religion is a man-made construct most often used to confine God in man's own little box to be called upon, at man's convenience, much like the proverbial genie in the bottle, to rationalize man's desires, more often evil than not. God, I believe, does not fit in our little boxes.I'm not political at all, but I'm highly patriotic. I believe the political people in our world are those who have their own self-aggrandizement, their own selfish agenda's, in focus. I believe they most often treat their political party as a religion with the narrow-minded view that only their particular party has a right to be heard, to hold office, to enjoy liberty and justice, to be fed, to have access to adequate health care and to pursue happiness. Yet the patriot is one who may abhor the views and beliefs of another yet abhor even more greatly any threat to that individual's freedom to have and express those views and positions. The patriot knows that where liberty, justice and the pursuit of happiness is denied to one, then it is denied to all. The patriot may fight another's position with all he has but will, if necessary, fight to the death to defend his opponent's inalienable right to have that position.I believe in my country, The United States Of America, and in the Constitution of these United States which, along with the Bill of Rights, is to be protected with our lives to assure that liberty and justice prevail. I also believe that our leaders can and often do depart from the Constitution they promised to protect making decisions that follow political and/or personal agendas rather than to protect and defend the law-abiding citizens - all citizens - of the United States. I believe anything that diminishes even the least among us diminishes us all. And, I believe the health and projected longevity of a nation can be assessed and predicted by view of the way a society treats its children and its elderly citizens. By that standard, the Night Ride works hard to contribute to a positive view of the USA, though there is certainly a long way to go. Currently, in America, I believe we are failing those tests miserably. Currently, in America, I believe we are suffering the affects of years of duping by the rich and "powerful" that they are the best to decide our fates as, after all, they are the ones with the money and influene - a lie that has brought down many societies throughout known world history and that may bring down our own if not checked quickly. Currently, in America, I believe gold tips the scales of justice far more than truth. Finally, I believe we, in America, have largely given up our freedoms, retreating into a victim's mentality, yet I also believe it may not be too late to take them back.I love my Christ in Whom I'm never disappointed; My family in whom I'm only occasionally disappointed; My Country in whose leadership I am frequently, these days, disappointed; and I love my Night Ride Family and invite you to be part of it. I created "The Night Ride With Bruce Hodges" under the philosophy that we don't have to be filfthy to be entertaining, informative and challenging. It's worked, and continues to.
