About Me
Currently a jobbing DJ and promoter traveling the country with my rag-tag gang of ner-do-wells, junkies, thieves, thugs, hookers and hangers on, spreading the word of angry Electro-disco! It's a full time job you know!Originally from Leeds and a regular on the club scene in and round the midlands from the halcyon days of 88 onwards, I fell into DJing around 1991 when one of the DJ's failed to turn up at an illegal warehouse party a friend was throwing. Knowing that I was the only other person who had any records and for no other 'talent-related' reason, I was quickly dispatched by taxi across town to pick up my 12"s and get right back! I returned, nervous as hell and apprehensive as to whether I'd be on the receiving end of a quick beating by dozens of clubbers who had played over the odds to hear Evil Eddie Richards, but were greeted by a slim 21 year old who couldn't mix,,, but had a few records!!Anyway, to cut a long story short, I just about got away with it and that was that! I had caught the bug! Decks were swiftly purchased, frantic practicing was involved and I was lucky enough to know enough people to get the all important breaks needed to get on the circuit.I soon set up my own nights in Leeds, the short lived but influential 'Hallelujah', (name stolen form the Happy Mondays song,) and 'Risk' one of the first 'Prog-House' nights with guest appearances form a young John Digweed and Slightly older 'Darren Emerson' in his pre-underworld days. Now, I may be biased, but my favorite ever club night was the fantastically successful 'All Back To Mine' in Leeds which I ran with the help of a core of 3 of my friends, (Cheers Paul, Andy and Mark!) from 1994 till 1997 which is still talked about in hushed tones by those that were there!Using this as our home base or headquaters, over the years we were sent out on manouivers to DJ at nearly every club of any note across the country from Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, London and Glasgow including some of the UK's legendary clubs such as The Heavenly Social, The Leadmill, Back to Basics, Moneypennys, The Bomb, Nottingham Social, Stealth, Middlesboro Empire, The Gallery and Orbit. In London I've played everywhere from Full Circle, The 333 Club, 93 Feet East, The Bar And Grill, Boombox, Full Circle, The Griffin, Checkpoint Charlie, Club UK, Caves, to name just a few and along the way I've been lucky enough to play alongside some of the most influential people in dance music, Phil Perry, Andrew Weatherall, Justin Robertson, The Chemical Brothers, the Scream Team, The Presets, MSTRKRFT, the Modular Crew, Busy P, Duke Dumont, Richard Fearless, Touché, Tim Burgess and Derek Delarge. At the moment I'm concentrating on promoting and DJing at a handful of clubs.
I have two monthly residencies, one in Birmingham and the other based in Manchester at the brilliant 'Bitter Suite' where I run a monthly night named 'Slash and Burn'.
It's here that we're trying to do something a little bit different and bring the up and coming DJ's into the spotlight, our friends who are not so much the trend setters, more the experimentalists! People, who aren't swayed by styles and musical fascisms of the club gliteratti,, people who play music the way it's supposed to be played, hard, fast, reckless, and WAY too loud!! And they play it because they want everybody to hear it, not just a bunch of nerds with note books frantically jotting down set lists! The club is home already to the already very successful weekly minimal Electro-Tech-Funk and anything that goes night 'Kollider' that is drawing praise from everyone that's been. The club itself is a great a mid sized re-vamped venue over two floors, the main room is a large open area which will be host to our guests each month holds about 300 or so, while the downstairs basement is a whole different affair, holding again about 250 to 300 sweaty party animals, with a low wooden ceiling and L shaped bar, it has the vibe of a sweaty, 70's New York underground disco! This is where you'll find the residents playing after they've heated things up nicely upstairs. It's bang in the heart of the city and already establishing itself as a Mecca for the more clued up hedonists of the area, surely it's only a matter of time before its HUGE! So get down before word gets out!
Our official launch is later this month so keep a lookout for details and line ups coming very soon!!
So thats me. Soul bared for the world,,,, Ohhh, yes, I also like chips and brown sauce on me bacon sarnies. Enjoy.
