Greetings, in the Awesome Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My name is Martin Guya, also known as, D-R Gooya, meaning (Delivered Rapper) Gooya.
God gave me a vision and it's simply -Reconnecting to the Source, Equiping for the Course.
I'm a gospel rapper, a preacher and a Bible teacher with a burden for ALL people of this era. My God given mission is to empower ALL listeners with God's Word, to reconnect their lives back to The heavenly Father (The Source) through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, and to search out and embrace the greatness inside of them and fulfill their God given (Course) effectively.
I started rapping when I was 13. I began rapping in night clubs all over Kenya, competing in competitions for money to help provide a little food for my mom and sister. I could win $15 in the big competitions and for us that was a huge miracle. My dad abandoned us for another woman and when he did come around he would abuse us physically and emotionally. He was a drunkard and he would come and show us the money he was earning from his well paying job and laugh at us telling us how we would never touch it or benefit from it in any way. I became a very bitter, angry, and rebellious young man. But God had a plan for my life!My mom loves Jesus so much and even through all of those heart breaking trials she was such a prayer warrior. She continued to pray for me and that I would surrender my life to God. She never gave up because she never forgot what a miracle my life is. She had been barren and had cried out to the Lord for a baby for many years. One day a prophet had been praying and fasting on the mountain and God sent him to my mother. He had never seen her and didn't know her, but God told him where she was and that she'd been praying for a baby. The prophet arrived at our home and knocked on the door. My dad and mom were in the house together and when my mother came the prophet asked her if she was Alice. She was surprised this stranger knew her name and was even more amazed when he told her that God had heard her cries and she would soon give birth to a baby boy. The prophet's name was Martin and 9 months later I was born and named Martin, after him. And so my mom continued to pray in faith, believing that this miracle child had a great destiny in the Lord.God continued to send His servants to me to call me into salvation, but my heart was so hard and I refused to surrender my sinful life. Finally God decided enough was enough and one day when I was walking home from school I was struck by lightning!!! The three men who were walking behind me died on the spot but though I was thrown many feet up in the air, I survived the incident unharmed! I was still very stubborn but the experience caused me to begin to think about the grace of God, His unconditional love, and His patience with me. It made me begin to believe He truly had a unique and specific plan for my life. What made me any more special than the men who died that day? Nothing! I started to think I should should stop taking life for granted. Some time after that I was walking and I happened to come upon a crusade. There was a man of God named Ben Bahati on the platform singing gospel Reggae songs and I just couldn't believe that someone could be singing Reggae at a Christian event! It opened my mind and changed my whole understanding about salvation and Christianity. That day I gave my life to Jesus with all my heart and I have never gone back or regretted serving Him.From that moment He began to stir in me passion and zeal like I had never known. It was like I was starving for His Word and for all things of Him. In the beginning I thought I would have to relinquish my music to become a serious man of God. I began to focus on preaching and evangelism. But the fire in my heart for music only burned stronger and stronger the more I tried to quench it. I realized that it was actually a gift from God - a tool to use for His glory and for His kingdom. So I began to compose new songs. Instead of writing songs that glorified myself and the world, I began to write songs that glorified God and that preached His Word through music. I couldn't stop writting, God just kept pouring these songs into me.God has brought me so far since that day. He continues to shape and mold me and my gifts into more effective vessels to deliver His message to the world. Now His songs are played all over East Africa and even in parts of the U.S., reaching audiences that might never be reached any other way. By His grace I have music videos that are being played on East African T.V. stations as well and the songs are played on several radio stations. Kids that might never walk into a church are hearing the gospel in a language they can understand and relate to. God is so good.Ultimately, my vision is to enable other young men to do what the Lord is helping me to do. There is an abundant wealth of raw tallent, belonging to young people who desperately love the Lord in Africa, but there are very few resources or opportunities for them to share these gifts with the world. By God's grace I want to give others a platform to spread the gospel along with me in this unique way.
