We started Truth And Its Burden in late March 2007. We’d all been in other bands that were playing the same shows in the same scene, based in Johannesburg, thus the connection between each other and how we all got to know each other seems fairly clean cut. We just wanted something more; something which we really felt would push our personal boundaries, something which would be positive and serve as meaningful.
When we started talking about forming this band, we discussed writing music that really challenged general views and ideas in heavy music, something that combined the values & ideals brought across in hardcore & punk rock with the musical styles of metalcore & progressive metal.
We wanted to mould solid friendships in the band while at the same time sharing common goals with our direction and our vision for our future, all of which are crucial factors in our band. We are serious about writing music that is challenging yet listenable; music that anyone can relate to in one way or another, whether that be through personal experience or through sharing similar opinions.
As nothing can be derived from nothing, we do draw influence from many bands throughout the musical spectrum, and like most bands; we are probably comparable to some or other band you’ve heard. With all that said, we’re hoping to add value and purpose to your musical interests and to make a difference in your life in one way or another, whether that be through the positive & sometimes thought provoking message we’re sending out or through our visual performances.
We started 2008 with a local tour, entitled “387 Revival Tour†which spanned across Durban, Cape Town & Johannesburg, The shows were all held over weekends and for the most part have helped build a solid foundation for us as a band.
