I’ve been singing since I can remember. My parents „infected“ me with music by giving me a high dose of albums of
Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, James Brown and the like. As a kid I fervently watched Tina Turner and Michael Jackson concerts. I was impressed by the whole „show“ – the stage, the lights.
In the end I’ve built my own „stage“ out of chairs. That’s how it all began :). After dressing up like Tina I would turn on the video recorder and copy her every move, every word she directed towards the audience. Back then I didn’t understand what she was saying, but I felt she had an amazing connection with the crowd. I felt I wanted to perform the same way someday. When I was invited to perform in Mini-Lista-Przebojów" (a TV programme in which children emulate their favourite rock stars) I was truly ecstatic, for I could finally present myself to a wider audience. In the course of a few years I have performed in the programme several times as Tina Turner, Cher and Diane Warwick. I have many fond memories of that time. I have passed my entrance examinations to elementary music school and started playing the piano. I used to hate it at first, but after a while I have realised, that the tedious repetitive exercises are effective and are worth pursuing. Upon graduating I was accepted to secondary music school to study eurythmics as well as continuing piano lessons. I have always doubted that this will come in handy, but now I believe it was a good move. Eurythmics gave me an awareness of my own body, movements, gestures and helped to master them, which is obviously extremely important on stage!
I don’t remember a particular day when I said to myself
„I am going to sing“, because there never has been such a moment. However, I do remember listening to
Whitney Houston’s „I’m your baby tonight“. The album made my heart beat faster. That’s when I started to treat singing seriously.
The way I have been working on my vocals and my way of singing have changed in the course of time. I’ve been given my first tips - or rather my first „kick in the butt“ - by Ela Zapendowska during a few lessons and vocal workshops in Nowogard. I still use some of my favourite exercises, which are quite strange and often have very little in common with singing itself. But they do help me – it’s an individual thing :). After passing entrance examinations to the
Jazz and Popular Music Department at the Katowice Academy of Music I became Anna Serafinska’s student. She opened my eyes and mouth to things I have never heard of before. I can confidently say that apart from my musical idols these were the two people who have developed my way of singing. I always thought that school should come first before any other activities, but even so I have managed to perform in several talent programmes on TV, such as
"Zostan gwiazda", "Szansa na sukces" and "Idol". The latter taught me most. Although taking part in it was a tremendous effort - and despite the fact that I have backed out before the finals - I think about it with great fondness. I have learned a lot about being on stage, working with the camera, lights and a crowd of people, as well as handling sudden popularity. I have learned to be focused and to overcome stage fright before every live performance. I have met fantastic people and worked with phenomenal musicians. It all meant a lot to me and I can feel it working to my advantage now. At the time when I left the show I had nothing apart from my popularity and a few experiences.
But my dreams have come true, I have recorded an album and I am currently working on the next one. I’ve worked for it since I was a child. Important links:
