About Me

"Cima" is the brain child of two seasoned and dedicated musicians. Ricky Wascher-Tavares and Oscar Peralta met 15 years ago in high school, where they learned, studied and played together in SharpEdge, a group which saw Ricky and Oscar begin to hone their songwriting skills. SharpEdge was an 80’s influenced rock/metal band, interpreting the “big hair” song styles of that era.
After playing for approximately two years together, Ricky and Oscar parted ways and played separately in many bands, both in the United States and in Mexico. It was here Ricky got his first taste at writing and recording a studio album with the Mexican rock group “Digital”. After parting ways with Digital in 1996, Ricky continued playing music in Mexico, playing brief stints with two Mexican rock bands, “Senda” and “Ruido Blanco”. Meanwhile, Oscar continued to play in a number of rock bands in the U.S and in Mexico.
Following a separation of approximately 5 years, Ricky and Oscar met up again and formed "Cima", a musical project inspired by years of dedication to music, a vast array of experience and a love of playing and songwriting. This “reunion” gave birth to Cima’s first CD entitled “Vuelo” which contains eleven compositions of acoustic guitar-dominated rock in Spanish, or “Rock en Español”. In order to maintain the direction, style and “vision” of the music, written by Ricky and Oscar, “Vuelo” was recorded solely by both composers, who played all of the instruments on the CD. Waldo Estrada, a local keyboardist and friend, supported Cima with his keyboard talents throughout the recording. The music on “Vuelo” was well received by radio listeners and catapulted Cima onto a higher level, both locally and across Mexico.
After a year of strictly radio promotion, Ricky and Oscar felt it was time to record a new CD, with a list of 25 songs ready to be picked for the next production. In April of 2000, Cima went back into the studio to record “La Elegancia de la Imaginación” which contains fourteen original songs from the songwriting duo, also in Spanish. For this project, Ricky and Oscar teamed up long-time friend AND drummer Mark Enciso. (Over the years, Ricky and Mark have played in more than half-a-dozen bands together.) Soon after its release, the duo parted ways amicably.
In 2006, after a 5 year hiatus from writing and recording, Ricky decided to "dust off" the Cima name and began composing music for a new album - but this time without his long-time partner and co-writer. The new album, entitled "Uno" ("One" in English) is a testament to Ricky's first endeavor as sole songwriter and producer for a musical project of this magnitude. This project is ALSO Ricky's first recording in English, although it does contain two re-recorded Cima songs (in Spanish) from the very first album "Vuelo".

Cima - "Unbroken"
After working in the field of HIV/AIDS for several years, I have met many inspirational individuals who have been infected and affected by this terrible disease. In spite of the challenges they face everyday, they continue to survive...to live strong...and to do extraordinary things. I wanted to pay homage to these incredible human beings and saw no better way to do it than through my music. "Unbroken" is dedicated to all of those who fought, died, suffered and continue to survive the devastation caused by HIV/AIDS.

Dgital - "Aqui con la Luna"
This is a video I filmed back in my "Digital" days. We were promoting our new self-titled CD, and shot this clip for the track "Aqui con la Luna". This song is VERY near and dear to my heart, and I consider it one of the best I have ever written. As you can tell, I am a bit younger AND a bit "hairier". Let's see if you can recognize me under all the hair! ENJOY!!!
A Message of Appreciation:
I would like to share the following video as a way to PERSONALLY express my gratitude to all those who take the time to visit my site and to listen to my music. I think sometimes we get so involved in what we are doing that we (unintentionally) forget to stop and appreciate those who play the most significant role in our musical endeavors...the listeners and the fans. Without you, these are just songs. But with your love, faith and support...they become great songs.
Thank you!!!
A Message of Appreciation from Ricky

This cool design you see here below was conceptualized by my nephew, Carlos Tavares, who is an AWESOME musician...and he is barely in high school!!!
