About Me

my love/hate relationship with miami, fl... the place where i was born and hardly raisedRichard H. Rippe, bass player for The Waterford Landing has been performing in the Miami local music scene late 1992. The roots of his upstart began in the early 1990's playing with friends in various punk and hardcore bands (learning from the likes of bands like SAMIAM, JAWBREAKER, JAWBOX, SUPERCHUNK, THE SWIRLIES & TIGER TRAP), as well as four years of his high school jazz band studies. Before graduating high school in 1994, he began what would be Miami's seminal progressive art rock band, SWIVEL STICK(1993-2002). His bass playing began to work around more melody (and even chords) instead of standard bass playingMainly deriving influences from bass players like Andy Rourke of The Smiths, Clint Conley of Mission of Burma and Peter Hook of Joy Division. Swivel Stick would be the platform for his experimentation in performance, music composition and originality. Between 1996 & 1997, Rippe played in two other influential bands from the Miami scene, DYNAMO PLAZA (for the AMG review got to: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:d9fqxqrj ldse) & THE LOVE 94. The LOVE 94 could be traced back as the origins for what would be the The Waterford Landing.Using guitars, drum machine and keyboards, Rippe would later visit this instrumental line-up after the demise of both groups. In late 1997, Rippe teamed up with Ed Matus of SUBLIMINAL CRIMINAL (and the Love 94), another miami local favorite, to start a new project called THE WATERFORD LANDING. The two wanted to incorporate every facet of music that had been influenced and exposed to them up to that point in their careers. This included electronic as well as experimental music with vocals and a concept. To achieve this concept, Alex Caso, local DJ and musician from The Love 94 joined the band and The Waterford Landing was complete. From 1998 thru 2004, Rippe worked with electronic instruments and computer sequenced compositions. Drawing influences from artist like LEXAUNCULPT, LOW RES, LUSINE, BOCHUM WELT & THE ORB, Rippe was drawing up new atmosphere's and landscapes. Writing experimental electronic music with processed sounds, rhythms and samples, Rippe released a few independent releases on his own record label TUESDAY MORNING RECORDS.Rippe has been writing music and lyrics since the beginning of his career. Lyrics are just as important to Rippe as is his playing style. With Swivel Stick, Rippe wrote all the lyrics as it came natural with all the personal changes and experiences he would endure in the span of the group's 10 year run. Using a very crystalized and poignant style of writing, Rippe recreates emotions or memories into a Plathesque moment or vision.Rippe has currently finished studies in Music Education and is beginning to write acoustic driven music along the lines of Nick Drake, Rose Melberg, Townes Van Zandt and Alexander "Skip" Spence. Deriving his influence from American roots music, early folk music and his own experiences as a Miami Native, Rippe has reached his main stage as an artist.Rippe has been recognized and respected in the Miami music scene as a musician that knows self-expression through art and sound no matter what genre he is exploring.-taken from the APPLIED CHAOTICS RECORDS bio.Strength Of StringsIn my life the piano sings Brings me words that are not the strength of strings Firey rain and rubies cooling in the sun Now I see that my world has only begun Notes that roll on winds with swirling wings Brings me words that are not the strength of stringsWhen I'm feeling high or I'm feeling low Or there is no change Somehow days keep melting into the night And there's always light on the cosmic range I am always high I am always low There is always change Hear the strings are bending in harmony Not so far from the breaking on the cosmic rangeIn my life the piano sings Brings me words that are not the strength of strings Firey rain and rubies cooling in the sun Now I see that my world has only begun Notes that roll on winds with swirling wings Brings me words that are not the strength of stringsWords & Music : Gene Clark....................................................... ..........
