Irina is born and raised in Umeå, in northern Sweden. She started taking classical violin lessons at 9 years old. At 11 she started playing swedish traditional music for Lena Sparresäter. Over the years, she has attended clinics, lessons and workshops for a variety of folk musicians; Väsen, Ale Möller, Bazar Blå, Jonas Knutsson, Tummel to name a few.
After graduating high school in 2006, she moved to Bollnäs, Hälsingland to study traditional folk music for Olof Misgeld at Bollnäs Folkhögskola. There she stayed for two years, following in her grandfathers foot steps as the only now living fiddle player from the Brännlund tradition in Jämtland. In Bollnäs she came in contact with the viola as a compliment for second voicing.
Now she studies at the Academy of Music i Malmö, Sweden. She will major in teaching: classical viola and ensemble. She also plays with a number of bands, classical as well as country, and also works as a freelancing violinist/violist in the Öresund region.
