Influences: Born in the Bronx,NY the birthplace and breeding ground for raw hip hop and graffiti culture, Jason Hunter aka Inspectah Deck moved at a young age to the Killah Hill(Parkhill)projects in Staten Island. This was where Deck became part of one of music’s most important legendary and seminal hip hop groups: Wu Tang Clan.Deck’s extraordinary lyricism has been recognized as some of the most potent wordplay in hip hop, the legendary swordswinger has shined not only on Wu Tang affiliated discs, but has completely destroyed tracks with his vivid verbal jousting on classic albums released by numerous wutang members and affiliates as well as Big Pun,Pete Rock,Gangstarr and even Blondie. His long awaited debut in 1999, Uncontrolled Substance showcased his intelligent rhyme scheme and metaphors, and was certified Gold in the US. His follow up The Movement was an album that the Rebel INS put his soul into,he was not only credited for executive producing,A&R and the coordination of the record, but made a conscious effort to put out a disc with a message to the youth in black culture. Deck said of his sophomore release: “Im basically trying to show the young shorties that you CAN be yourself and that you can do what YOU want to do in this game.†In between rhyming with an intense aptitude Deck has also been known to apply his musical skill in the realm of production. He has contributed bangers to such renowned Wu Tang solo albums as Method Man’s Tical 2000: Judgement Day, Ghostface Killah’s Supreme Clientele and RZA’s Bobby Digital In Stereo. Inspectah Deck’s latest releases Resident Patient 1&2, he continues to reveal why he is not only a standout lyricist within the Wu Tang Clan camp, but a recognisable force and above average talent in the sphere of hip hop, period. The album showcases new affiliates House Gang, and features collaborations from Wu-Tang members: RZA, U-God, Carlton Fisk and Ice Water Inc, as well as Psycho Les from the legendary Beatnuts and Chico DeBarge. It is evident that throughout his influential course as an MC and producer, Inspectah Deck will continue to pertain to the true essence of hip hop, with a relentless capacity, verbally and behind the boards.
