Mary Ellen Barlow - Songwriter

About Me

I'm a songwriter located in the small village of Fort Edward in Upstate New York (we're at the base of the Adirondack Mountains & the Hudson River runs right through Fort Edward). I started writing songs in the early 90s and was lucky enough to get my first cut almost immediately. A song I wrote about my dad called "(Lookin' Through) The Windows of My Life" was recorded by Doug Koempel and The Memory Brothers on their cd, "Somebody's Searchin'" on Minotaur Records. The song received considerable airplay locally and is still being performed on a regular basis by The Memory Brothers. Paul Gibbs, a Christian artist located in Hudson Falls, NY recorded another "dad" song - "Deliver This to Daddy" and also recorded a song we co-wrote called "Somewhere to Belong". Mike Flores and I co-wrote a couple of songs ("The Volunteer" and "Everybody Cried") and all proceeds from the sale of these songs has been donated to a local deceased firefighter's family, local volunteer fire companies or the New York State Volunteer Firefighters' Museum. Darlene Marie McCoy has recorded 8 of my songs - 5 on a cd she recorded which was sold to benefit the Prospect Child & Family Center and 3 more on her newest release. I also have my own "production" - a little thing called "Following Friends to Fame" which is a tribute of sorts to a couple of former hometown guys (Bat McGrath & Don Potter) who I greatly admire and who have been a huge influence. "Following Friends" is a 44-page booklet & 2-song cd ("Following Friends to Fame" and "The Writer") and is available for purchase on my website (www.maryellenbarlow.com). Most of the songs you'll hear on my page will probably never be heard anywhere else, but I have to stay true to myself; I have a real knack for "breaking the rules", but I thought rules were made to be broken!! I love to write though and I hope you'll get some enjoyment from my music.
