Song Cries

About Me

First and foremost I am an avid music lover. Ever since I was a child I have found myself getting lost in songs that my parents and older siblings would listen to on the radio. The older I got, I realized that the songs I was drawn to were those that spoke of life and the different experiences that shape us. This gave me a new appreciation for music, and helped me to see that these songs were literally a soundtrack to the life of the writer. I also realized that music allowed people who would not ordinarily have a voice to be heard by society in general. Growing up in a third world country, I had the experience of hearing the cries of the poor and underprivileged echoed in the music of that day. It was Victor Hugo who said, "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent." This statement has held true throughout the years as the poor, the oppressed, the loved, the broken hearted, the passionate and the thinker have all expressed themselves using this medium. Music is also a major philosophical tool. If we listen carefully it will allow us to see where we are as a society and as individuals. To feel the pulse of a generation, all we have to do is listed to its songs. On considering this concept, the Scottish writer Andrew Fletcher said, "Let me write the songs of a nation - I don't care who writes its laws." If you doubt this at all just take a look at the songs that came out of the 60's and 70's; the revolutionary reggae songs that came out of Jamaica; the freedom songs that were born out of apartheid. This list continues and spans the gamut of religions, societies and cultures. When it comes to music, all people have a voice and get a chance to be heard. This page is meant to give homage to the souls that are/were brave enough to pour themselves out in song. Also, it gives us the opportunity to give commentary on the old and the new and what it means to us. Join me as we discuss the songs that make up the soundtrack to our lives.Blessing and Guidance,Bangi.

Legacy

Last night I saw what I can only describe as the transference of heart.  Some might call it the passing of the torch, but I believe it goes much deeper than that. It was more than a sensei and hi...

Youth Of A Nation... This nation!!!

This song was written shortly after the Columbine shootings (if I am not mistaken), but it seems fitting at this point in time as we consider what just took place at Virginia Tech.  My condo...
