About Me
DJ MISTRalph Gunter Jr., a.k.a. DJ MIST is not only a force to be reckoned with, he has through his many struggles and heartaches, found a way to “transform†himself into an entire movement. DJ MIST hails from Augusta, Ga, and was born on February 13, 1985 to Ralph and the late Victoria Gunter as the oldest of three siblings. At the tender age of six under his parents’ encouragement, MIST learned to entertain relatives at their constant family barbecues, which eventually lead him to start producing, thus opening the floodgates for what some would later refer to as the second coming of the one’s and two’s crown holder. Recalling receiving his first pair of turntables from his father, by age 8, DJ MIST was spinning at all the hottest clubs, weddings and parties around the southeastern region despite the fact that he was well underage. By the time he was a senior in high school, MIST had not only made a name for himself as a “Turntable Godâ€, he had also managed to set aside enough space in his schedule to become one of the most sought after running backs in the nation. After accepting an athletic scholarship from Middle Tennessee State University, MIST played collegiate football for two years before the untimely 2004 passing of his mother brought him back to his roots of Augusta, Ga; but not prior to sharpening his already tremendous skills while in Tennessee enough to return home and make a career out of Djing, and producing. In no time, DJ MIST built a buzz on the streets through his mixtapes and djing that one could only dream of. Seeing his uncanny ability to rock a crowd, it was here, 97.9 The Wiiz, on air personality Rob Black approached MIST about spinning for him on his nightly show, “In The Trap With Rob Blackâ€. Happily accepting his first radio gig on The Wizz, MIST garnered so much praise from his mixing and blending capabilities, he almost instantaneously attracted the attention of other local, as well as regional radio stations, who immediately called on his services. Stations such as Augusta’s Foxie 103.1, Brunswick’s 92.7 Jams, and Dothan, Alabama’s WJJN 92.1 had all by late 2004, fell in love with the hypnotizing rhythms provided compliments of DJ MIST. By midyear 2005, DJ MIST had become a household name. Dropping an unprecedented 200 mix cds while simultaneously doing radio, and spinning at almost all of the hottest nightclubs across the southeast, MIST solidified himself as a mainstay, in addition to being appointed as a torch bearer for the new generation of hip hop. In 2006, MIST upped his ante even more; producing for various artists, including critically acclaimed lyricst CRUMM, whose mixtape "GOT MICS?â€, with commandeering from MIST, went on to sell over 5,000 copies to date. Quite the business connoisseur, MIST’s tireless entrepreneurial spirit also helped form, operate, and co-own OOMG, an entertainment company based out of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, further expanding his brand from stateside to the entire West Indies. Of course, all of this work didn’t go unrewarded as DJ MIST was recognized and nominated amongst his peers as “Slept On DJ of the Year†at the Southern Entertainment Awards (SEA) in 2006. Flying high off his monstrous street credibility, MIST extended his notoriety once again in 2007, when the Infamous Oomp Camp came knocking at his door; ultimately earning himself a membership in the world famous Southern Style Djs’ coveted family. With such members as the legendary DJ Jelly, MC Assault, DJ Montay, DJ Unk, DJ Shawwty Rock, and DJ Houtsauce, DJ MIST is now embracing the worldwide stage, spinning at various clubs around the U.S., officially tour djing for the regionally acclaimed trio C-Side, dropping weekly mix cd's, fulfilling his radio duties, all while still having a moment to map out plans for his DJ school. Humble, and known as a man of very few words, when asked how he manages to handle everything with so much poise, DJ MIST just simply shrugs and says, “It’s just a mixture of God’s will and Victoria watching over me I guess.†With that being said it’s almost sinful to even ask what he plans to do next, especially since perfection is considered best served unexpectedly. Globally we are witnessing the markings of history in the making; whether some might know him as “the man with the golden wrists†or the “transformer kingâ€, others simply as “MISTâ€, one thing remains certain, whatever or however you know him, it’s impossible to forget him.
