Nova Melica

La band nasce dalla collaborazione tra Andrea (chitarrista) e Massimo (bassista), i quali, lasciatosi alle spalle le esperienze delle loro bands precedenti (rispettivamente Zero Kelvin e Valgrind, due gruppi conosciuti nel panorama underground e con all’attivo diversi lavori), decidono di dar vita ad un nuovo progetto nel quale fondere gli stilemi e le influenze musicali che gli appartenevano. I due buttarono giù alcune idee dalle quali subito emerse una certa personalità e maturità compositiva. Dapprima furono orientati all’inserimento di una seconda chitarra; successivamente però il riffing risultò abbastanza “completo”, mentre le sonorità drammatiche e intense suggerivano l’introduzione di un tastierista che avesse una sua autonomia nel produrre arrangiamenti adeguati ed estrosi. La scelta ricadde su Gabriele. Con tale formazione si gettarono le basi per i primi pezzi dei Nova Melica. Fu quindi ingaggiato il promettente (ed esordiente) cantante Vittorio. La ricerca del batterista durò a lungo sino all’incontro fortuito di Federico, appena uscito dai Draconian Order. I loro pezzi nascono da una commistione di heavy metal classico, con un riffing d’impatto e tempi articolati, progressive rock, thrash metal e qualche richiamo, per l'uso delle tastiere, al black metal sinfonico. Questa descrizione non è sufficiente a rappresentare in pieno le complesse sonorità del gruppo, che cerca di sintetizzare le molteplici influenze musicali dei vari elementi. Il frutto di questo lavoro prende forma nelle tre tracce del loro primo demo, “Endless Maze”, autoprodotto e mixato nel maggio del 2007 allo Studio Kappa di Castrolibero (CS). Il sound dei Nova Melica è intenso, abbraccia atmosfere drammatiche ed evocative, inserite in un mood aggressivo e asimmetrico, con l’intento di giungere nel profondo e toccare le corde più inaccessibili dell’animo umano.
The band was formed by the collaboration between Andrea (guitarist) and Massimo (bass player). Leaving behind their preceding bands (Zero Kelvin and Valgrind respectively, two well known bands of the underground music movement, which recorded several works), Andrea and Massimo choose to create a new project in which combining their stylistic features and musical influences. The two guys threw off some composition from which came out personality and maturity. At first they were oriented to add another guitarist, but realizing that riffing was quite “complete”, they chose to call a keyboard player who could arrange excerpts in an appropriate and creative way. This choice was suggested by the dramatic and intense sound of their first compositions. They picked out Gabriele. With this line-up the first pieces were composed. At this point they engaged Vittorio, a promising (and debutant) singer. The search for a drummer was long, till they accidentally met Federico, who just left Draconian Order. Their music come out from a mixture of classic heavy metal, characterized by solid riffing and articulated times, progressive rock, thrash metal and symphonic black metal (as regards keyboards arrangements). That’s not enough to describe exactly the complex sound of the band which try to synthesize the several musical influences of every single member. The result of this work come out in the three excerpts of their first demo, “Endless Maze”, self-produced and mixed on the May 2007 at the Studio Kappa in Castrolibero (CS). Nova Melica sound is intense, it embraces dramatic and evocative atmospheres, within an aggressive and asymmetric mood, with the intention to reach the deep and touch the most inaccessible chord of the human spirit.
