BIOGRAPHY
Raul Diaz, the son of one of the most top piano players in Puerto Rico, Alba Rosa Castro, was born in January 19th 1961. Raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico Raul began picking up the drum sticks at an early age. It was the age of 10 when he began taking drum lesson with Samuel Lifzchitz. Thanks to him and many, this is what made him who he is now. Later, in the following year, at age 11 Raul enters the Escuela libre de Musica de Puerto Rico. This school of art in Puerto Rico which specifies in music was to a great advantage for Raul’s drumming career. Joining the Dance Band (Pop Orchestra), playing gigs, recording, earning the experience, and graduating 1978 from the school made his music skills impeccable in a young age.After High school, with out hesitation Raul received many calls to play live shows. He afterward became part of Babo Jimenez and his Orchestra in Wapa TV in Puerto Rico. Doors of opportunity began to open, as he saw himself playing in T.V at the same time Raul was playing with top singers from Puerto Rico like Yolandita Monge, Danny Rivera, Carmita Jimenes, and other international Singers like Jose Jose, Olga Guillot, Blanca Rosa Gil and many more.Starting in 1983-1984 Raul began familiarize him self more with music as he played in different cruise line orchestras. A decision was to be made later in the year 1984 Raul moved to Miami, Florida. Neither the talent nor the opportunity came to an end there, it was just the beginning. In the States, he played with a Spanish singer Miguel Gallardo and Toured around the United States with singers like Sandro, Marco Antonio Muñiz, Maria Marta Serralima, Braulio, Angela Carrasco, Manuella Torres, Lucho Gatica, Nelson Ned and many more.
In 1987, live shows and TV presentations started again for Raul. He worked along side with a top conductor,Hector Garrido and toured international with Chayanne that year. After that The 90’s kicked in, and there was no doubt you couldn’t miss Raul Diaz behind the drums in Telemundo in the show A La Cama Con Porcel.1997 Raul’s Drum School opened, thanking Sam Ash Music Store for the support. Again, The Talent and opportunity doesn’t end here. But it was about time to see how Raul Diaz can offer to the community and to those who hunger for what he hungered. He diligently works in training young people with there playing (technique) and sight reading (theory), slowly preparing the next generation for the music industryThe 21 century is here, and Raul is currently working with different artists like Alvaro Torres & more, playing shows and preparing for upcoming projects.
