When I was a kid, every fall my parents put me to work in the garden to rake up all the dry leafs and branches. While working I would sort out all the mapleseeds I could find (you know the ones you put on your nose) and put them in a special container. Then we would make a big fire out of all the junk from around the yard. While watching the fire grow bigger and bigger I would carefully split the mapleseeds in halfs, as they grow in pairs. Then they make excellent propellers. Depending on the wind I would climb high up one of the three ash-trees, that were sourrounding the fire place, and in one single blast I would chuck all the propellers at once towards the fire. Like a swarm of grasshoppers the mapleseeds propellered toward the fire, catching the hot air, suddenly racing towards the skies. It seemed the moment would last forever...
