With little knowledge of how to do either job, in 1987 Chris â€Baby Boi†Wright stepped into the music scene as a group D.J. and part time producer. He purchased some cheap music equipment, and for the next couple of years started learning how to perfect his skills. By 1990 Baby Boy’s D.J.ing skills were descent. By 1993 Baby Boy had stopped D.J.ing and purchased some studio equipment to become a full-time producer. In 1994 Baby Boy hooked up, and formed a group with Brownie Deville, Twig, Mr. Ike, Pooh Styles, Chat Daddy, Jadaeka Mazon, and Bite Size. Their first album was called Southern Style Funk and was released in 1995. In 1998 Baby Boy meets G-Rappa, who was looking to start his own label and by 1999 Knoxvegas Records was born. Mike Frankie was the engineer and G-Rappa as C.E.O., recruits Baby Boy for producer, and Assistant Engineer, and they started recording. Jadaeka, and Twig was also part of the label. Knoxvegas Finest was the first album for the label, and it was released in 2001. Others under the label were Nugget, Julie Henderson, Lamont Johnson, Skwirl, and G.Nice. The album also featured Mr. Mack & D.J. Doink of Boiler Room, Blu Cheez, and D.J.Ferb. In 2003 Baby Boy moved up to Engineer after Mike Frankie headed back home to California. Baby Boy’s first job, as engineer was to record Sky’s The Limit, the second album from Knoxvegas Records. While recording Sky’s The Limit, he recorded three famous artists on the album. The artists were Mr. Mike, Bun B., and Mc Eiht. The album also featured E. Fresh for production. In 2005 he recorded Collateral Damage, the third album from the label. While recording Collateral Damage, he also recorded 10 famous artists on the album with 7 artists coming into Knoxvegas’s studio to record. The artists he recorded were 8 Ball & M.J.G., Daz Dillenger, David Banner, Too Short, B.G., and E-40. The other three artists were recorded in their own studios, Mike Jones, Scarface, and The Young Gunz. With the album date for Collateral Damage still pending, Baby Boy is working on G-Rappa’s third solo album, but forth under the Knoxvegas label. A fifth album produced by Baby Boy called Sucker Free is also under development. Baby Boy will also be recording another hot new artist, from the label name Bogard. His album could be coming out soon.
Baby Boy has become the backbone of Knoxvegas Records. He is a composer, producer, and engineer. This allows him to run almost all areas of the control room. He is persistent worker, and will not stop until the task is done. Baby Boy has the ability to learn anything that is put before him. His first love is producing, and he has learned a lot since he started in 1987, and thrives to be better. With the experience he has earned, Baby Boy has hopes of getting signed, run his own company, and produce hits for years to come.
