The Afflictions came to be in January 2007 when Sam was lurking on Emmett's nexopia.com page and saw that Dakota had left him a comment inquiring about an imminent jam session. Curious, Sam asked Emmett what that was about. He was informed that Emmett and Dakota wanted to start a band but needed a guitar player and a singer. Fitting that description, Sam volunteered. In a matter of days, a date was set and on 31 January 2007, Dakota and Emmett got dropped off at Sam's house in the early afternoon to create history. At this point, the band was known as The Greasy Minute, that name being the brainchild of an MSN conversation between Emmett and Sam. After composing the songs "Bullying Sucks", "Balls To You" and "Naked" during their first session, other illustrious numbers were soon to follow, such as "Middle Class Misery", "Turn Off The Light" and "Bullshit and Nonsense". It's also notable that they had opted to cover "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" by The Adverts and "Have You Got 10p" by The Ejected. (Both British bands. What a bunch of wannabes!)In late June 2007, growing tired of the novelty name The Greasy Minute, it was decided that the trio would opt for the more conventional name The Afflictions, just in time for their first-ever gig. On 13 July 2007 at Avenue Skatepark in Edmonton, The Afflictions opened fire with "Bullying Sucks" and ended with "Balls To You" before getting showed up by Break Away, Brother Voodoo, Eye Gouger and The Skitzos.Shortly after the fairly successful first gig, a major event shook up the band. No worries, it was of the good variety. Being a spectator at the first show was not enough for Cale Hall, a good friend of the band. Due to his wickedness and excellent drummanship, he was added to the band's line-up, triggering a chain-reaction of instrument-changing, with Emmett leaving the stool for the guitar and Sam shedding the strings and focusing on the mic. Dakota kept on rocking the bass. After Cale's arrival, the boys wrote some new songs, i.e. "Give Her A Chance" and "David Beckham".What's more, after an almost four-month invisiblity on the scene, they came back rocking on 11 November 2007, playing the Mead Hall with Deliver Us From Evil (some metal band), Punk Rock Dan, Balls Out Face First, Swill City Locals and Hazardous Punks. That show coincided with the releasing of The Afflictions' first CD, that being the Demo Of Death. A smash success. All ten copies were sold/given away during the course of the night. On January 11th, playing a rad show with High Jinks and On The Brink to name a few, The Afflictions celebrated their debut CD release with the twelve-track-strong "Punker Than Jesus". It sold out on opening night. Basically, that's where we are at this point in time. The bio will only get bigger...The Afflictions have played with the following bands:
