With the selftitled album "AURORA", AURORA is making their debut on the Danish jazzscene through Cope Record's jazz sub-label "Calibrated".
During the two years since the band was founded, AURORA has been busy doing live performances at festivals and clubs in Denmark and elsewhere in Europe. The music on their debutalbum is inspired by current movements in jazzmusic, and features a unique and personal sound throughout all of the albums 10 compositions, all of which are signed the bands guitarplayer and composer Jonas Kappel Lund.
With their 5-piece lineup, consisting of two saxophones and a rythm-section with the guitar as the harmonic focal point, the band has a personal and very homogenous sound, which moves seamlessly between arranged and improvised parts, woved together to create a challenging and exciting whole, something the artwork of the album emphasizes as well.
The record is a convincing blend of jazz, classical, electronica and rock’n’roll and works as a soundtrack to a movie which has yet to be made. Until then you may provide the images yourself. With references to everything from electronic music to Norwegian black metal the band takes you on a journey through exciting and colourful soundscapes. The dark and mythological spirit of the nordic culture is present as well, in both the lyrical passages and the tensionfilled sound-imagery created by the dynamic and expressive group, working together as a collective.
