About Me

Martyn Swain is an Emmy and FIPA D’Or Award-Winning Composer, and Sound Designer working from his own Digital ‘Sound to Picture’ studio in Central London. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- In 1987 Martyn joined the Waterboys as a Bass Guitarist/Backing Vocalist. From there he gained worldwide touring, recording, and TV experience with World Party, Aimee Mann, Toni Childs, Julian Lennon, Sinead O’Connor, Holly Johnson and David Bowie, amongst others. He also studied at the Guildhall School of Music, and moved from “hired hand” to prolific singer and songwriter, writing with Robert Plant, Aimee Mann, Toni Childs, and Julian Lennon, as well as fronting his unique and critically acclaimed band Secret Circus, which released 2 EPs. ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------Martyn is now concentrating on a career as a Composer and Producer, working on numerous commissions for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4. He has already won two Emmy Awards for his contributions to BBC 2’s Timewatch programmes, “Allied to the Mafia”, and “The True Story of the Roman Arena”, and is the 2005 winner of the FIPA D’Or, a prestigious worldwide award given for ‘Best Original Score for a TV Drama’. ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------- 2002 saw Martyn writing and recording the score for the BBC’s epic ‘Pyramid’ a score that blended Wagnerian orchestral power with ethnic simplicity. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------In 2004, following early success with contributions to Cracker, Martyn wrote the Afro Cuban score for the new series of ’Auf Weidersehen Pet’, as well as being appointed the London representative for top Tokyo based advertising composers Syn Corporation. Also in that year the BBC TV film ‘Belonging’ starring Brenda Blethyn pushed Martyn further into the spotlight with a melodic and poignant score. ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------2005 saw Martyn score ‘The Rotters’ Club’ a gritty Drama series set in the turmoil of mid 70’s Birmingham, and 2006 saw further BBC Films ‘The Reichenbach Falls’ and ‘The Acid Test’ as well as contributions to ’Little Britain’. Sessions as a Producer, Songwriter and Musician have followed with Julian Lennon, the results of which will be seen later this year with the release of a new album, and the collaboration continued into a startlingly original project led by Martyn, which will include contributions from Julian, David Gray, Aimee Mann and Will Young amongst others. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------As an acknowledgement of his progress in the field of TV music, Martyn was last year invited onto the BAFTA panel of Judges for ‘Best Original Music’, and is also a valuable member of the Media Executive of the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------At 42, Martyn’s immense enthusiasm for music remains undiminished and he sees his best years looming ahead of him. With a wealth of experience and a personal contact list including most of the best musicians in Britain, who could doubt him!
