"No matter how many Classical concerts I continue to sing, I have always felt a personal calling to music ministry, and will continue to sing in churches and at other religious events. God has blessed me with a voice, so it is only right that I use it to sing His praises."
-Janice Chandler-Eteme
In addition to becoming among America's foremost Classical soprano soloists, Janice Chandler-Eteme brings great personal conviction to Spiritual/Gospel music. She has recorded Soulful Messiah, Angels On High (with Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony), and her latest collaboration is with the premier Gospel artist and composer Richard Smallwood on his eagerly-anticipated recording "Journey: Live In New York," also featuring such formidable R&B artists as Chaka Khan and Kelly Price. She is the featured soloist on "We Worship You." Although she has graced the world's major concert stages, some of her most uniquely satisfying musical and spiritual experiences remain at places--and events--of worship. These include as soloist at Dupont Park's Centennial Celebration, Metropolitan Baptist Church, New Shiloh Baptist Church, Berea Temple and First Church (all in the Baltimore/Washington area, where she resides); and appearances at the Shiloh Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Chicago, Ebenezer Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Atlanta, Miracle Temple also in Baltimore, Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan and Breath of Life Church in Thousand Oaks, California.
As a Classical artist, Mrs. Chandler-Eteme's recent collaborations include Yuri Temirkanov and the Baltimore Symphony and Rome's Santa Cecilia Orchestra, Stefan Sanderling and the Florida Orchestra, Peter Oundijan at the Grand Teton Music Festival, James Conlon and the Cincinnati Symphony, Jahja Ling and the San Diego Symphony and the Andreas Delfs and the Milwaukee Symphony; Leonard Slatkin and the Nashville Symphony (inaugurating the brand-new concert hall in Mahler's Second Symphony, telecast nationally on P.B.S.) Carl St. Clair and the Pacific Symphony , Neeme Jarvi and the New Jersey Symphony, and Hans Graf and the Houtson Symphony. Other dstinguished conductors with whom she collaborates, includes Marin Alsop, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Charles Dutoit, Jo Ann Falletta, Claus Peter Flor, Jeffrey Kahane, Carlos Kalmar, Yakov Kreizberg, Raymond Leppard, Christof Perick, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Robert Spano, Vladimir Spivakov, Edo de Waart and hugh Wolff; appearing with the Los Angeles and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestras; Boston, NKH (Japan), Montreal, Vancouver, Phoenix, Kansas City, Colorado and Santa Rosa Symphonies; Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Rochester Philharmonics; Philadelphia Orchestra and Orchestra of St. Luke's among many others.
She holds a B.A. in Vocal Performance from Oakwood College and a M.M. in Vocal Performance from Indiana University. She has studied with Ginger Beazley, Virginia Zeani, Margaret Harshaw, Todd Duncan, Charlotte Hollomon and Gene Carter.
