She has relocated to the songwriting mecca of the world, Nashville TN, with her husband Michael Flanders, and three children, Ben, Jasmine and Caleb. On a daily basis crafting her tunes and co-writing with the worlds finest tunesmiths. Chaise says living in Nashville and being surrounded by such inspiring songwriters, musicians, artists etc, leaves her challenged yet driven, and craving to write great songs. Chaise has had over twenty five cuts in Australia, including artists such as Erin Drew, Melody Dunn, Lise Liddell, Col Finley, Gemma Doyle, Natalie Howard, Nellie Donovan, Kelly Black , etc.
Born in Gympie, regional Queensland, Australia, and raised in Brisbane songwriter/artist CHAISE has had music in her blood all her life. At the tender age of four Chaise was introduced to her first musical instrument the ukulele. The new found performer felt one with the instrument and by the age of seven took up the violin.
In her teens, she picked up a guitar and launched into her career playing covers and original tunes. Her voice quickly developed to compliment her guitar skills and she was soon the toast of the Brisbane live music scene. thescene_16jun99frontcover "At seven I started to play violin. I played for seven years, but I could never see myself aspiring to be in an orchestra. I did the orchestra thing in grade seven, but honestly, it just wasn't me. A couple of years later I picked up a guitar and I've been playing ever since. I also play a little piano, but purely as a creative outlet."Signing to Arctic Records in 1997, Chaise released her first single "Only Be Me" to a warm response around the country. The insightful lyrics and sentiments tapped into the hearts of many.
couriermail_30july99pg9 "I had people write to me and say they had been going through a down time and that Only be Me had inspired them with the answers that had been smacking them in the face. Some said that they had realized they just needed to be themselves, and if that wasn’t good enough for those concerned, than it was tough. I had quite a few people say along the lines it made them take the positive alternative, and that it became clear to them they needed to be open and true to themselves. They said thank-you because they felt they had been truly inspired, and felt like they knew me. I guess this is a momentary thing, because we continually go through phases that try us, but it was inspiring for me to think that I had truly connected with some."
Chaise has been songwriting for the past 17 years, and has developed a unique pop sound that combines elements of R&B, soul, gospel, and rock. Chaise has moved forward diversifying her ability as a songwriter penning songs in country/pop alternate. Chaise not only loves song writing solo, but also finds that she has a strong affection for co- writing.
"Only Be Me" saw her enter the top 40, paving the way for "So In Love", one of 1998s biggest club hits in Australia.
The third single "Your Reality (Only You)" is a funky, pop track that Chaise started writing for a friend that she had wished to help but found sain_may99pg31 she needed to stand back, be compassionate without having the need to change them. The message is basically as it says in the chorus, "What You’ve Got To Prove, You’ve Got To Prove To You, YOU HOLD THE KEY TO YOUR REALITY ONLY YOU". A good message to all I believe. Chaise is a spiritual person and when asked about it, has this to say, "Faith for me is the key to life. The knowing that there is a higher purpose to all we do, and that when I am down I am being carried. That I will always be okay so long as I live with unconditional love, compassion, the drive and motivation to try to achieve my highest aspirations.
sain_november99 Music inspires people and for me is very spiritual. Music has been my beat for life since I was like three years old. Music has the power to help you grow, release your creativity, understand what is true to you, to even take a glimpse at your subconscious mind. You can use music to open your heart and to give to all that open their heart to it. I truly believe we all need to live by the heart and listen to our instincts, our passions otherwise in some way we just become a little numb."
