Darren LightyHaving been taught music at an early age by his father Clifton Lighty Sr.He developed a talent for writing and producing by playing for his High School Chorus (Estill High) as well as many local area Churches, weddings, and talent shows in South Carolina. Darren Lighty is a multi-talented producer, arranger and songwriter.The Estill, South Carolina native moved to his birth town Paterson New Jersey in 1988 where he currently resides. He worked at Sam Ash Music in Paramus where he met the hip-hop legend and pioneer Marley Marl. He was instrumental in creating the title track for Force MD’s (Step To Me) and was instrumental in LL Cool J’s multi-platinum (Mama Said Knock You Out). He formed a group “The Flex†consisting of platinum songwriters Clifton Lighty Jr. and Eric Williams a former member of Black Street.In 1995 he teamed up with Hip Hop extraordinaire Kay Gee of Naughty by Nature. There he produced Next, Coffee Brown, Aaliyah, Zhane, Naughty By Nature,Queen Latfah ,Will smith ,Big Pun and Jaheim.In 1998 he teamed with long time friend and Super producer Eddie F. They produced the smash single “U Know What’s Up†for Donell Jones, as well as the Grammy nominated†More Than A Woman†Angie Stone and Calvin Richardson duet, “No More†Ruff Endz.Together they have produced and remixed for many acts from Tyrese to the legendary Luther Vandross.Today Darren is CEO of D-Life music a subsidiary of Soul Central. He with the likes of Eddie F and Kay Gee are still active in producing tomorrow’s music.
