"DFox"....My view of life has always been a series of lines and shapes, connected by color and explained by perspective. And while the lines and shapes were always present, as life unfolded they often became blurry and unfocused. Invariably, most artists seek the truth, but I've based my creative energy on peeling back the layers of truth to expose that blurry core of society called real life. Often times this reveals a vision of gritty imagery and an oblique point of view.
Since a child I've been entranced by the sights and sounds of people, places, art and music and inspired by the art of Gustav Klimt, Jean Michel Basquiat and Frida Kahlo and the music of Motown. Those inspirations remain evident in my art. But what I strive for is emotion. I like to imply and be straight forward with my art. I want to present something that touches the spirit and pushes controversy in discussions about life and its ever changing ways. I would like to know that I've evoked thoughts and feelings through sight. Art can be described as the human effort to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature, but to me art is a means to going deeper into myself. To me art makes a statement.
Drawing from life and diversity and inspired by the photos of Gordon Parks, I seek to use photography to cause viewers to pause and think, even for a moment. Our culture demands instant gratification, so I want to quickly draw you in and give you a sense of what I'm feeling in the hopes that you walk away with your own experience. Since photography is both an art and a craft, I view it as an alliance between the left brain and right brain...a reckless discipline that captures life.
