B & The Honeyboys

About Me

B & The Honeyboys are a bluesy, funky, R&B outfit formed in early 2006 by Kieran McEvoy (aka K.J. Mac) and Aileen Mythen ( B). Sharing a love of Blues and all things related, the two, both involved in other projects and activities originally formed the band as an outlet for playing Blues standards in bars and clubs. Since then B & The Honeyboys have become a more serious concern recording an album of original songs, written by B and K.J., which has garnered glowing reviews and widespread critical acclaim.
K.J. Mac (singer, guitar player and song writer):
K.J. Mac hails from Dublin and has been a professional musician for many years, playing lead guitar and singing with many different bands and solo artists. He lived and worked as a musician for 8 years in New York City, where he played lead guitar, sang and contributed songwriting to bands such as the Sony signed roots act, 'Naked Grape', Indie Folk rocker, Melissa Sheehan and Electra Records glam rockers, 'Smashed Gladys' among others. On returning home to Ireland in 1996 he recorded on his sister Eleanor McEvoy's columbia Record's album, 'What's Following me' and toured the U.S.A, Europe & Ireland with Eleanor and her band, played with many well known artists including Meteor Award winner Luan Parle and released his own E.P. of original songs (www.myspace.com/kjmacmusic.com). As a songwriter, K.J. has collaborated with many well known artists, including Eleanor McEvoy ('Make mine a small one') and more recently contributed to the album, 'On the outside' with Dublin's Gospel Project, which he is a member of.
B (singer, songwriter):
Wexford born B aka Aileen Mythen is a 'real discovery' (HOTPRESS). She has been performing on stage in one way or another and has been writing songs from the age of six, encouraged by her musician parents, who gigged extensively around Ireland with their country band in the 1970's. Along with singing B has an equal passion for acting and is a graduate of Dublin's prestigious Gaiety School of Acting. Since graduating she has performed all over the country with many different theatre companies and sung with many different bands performing myriad styles of music in venues including The Olympia, The Gaiety, the N.C.H. and bars and clubs the width and breadth of Ireland. In order to finance her singing career and the band B has voiced many cartoon characters most recently the voice of Wilma, a singing weasel in the film 'Niko and the way to the stars', which features some original B & The Honeyboys songs.
Shane atlas (drums)
...the man who provides the back beat for B & the Honeyboys. London born Atlas is one of Dublin's premier drummers and has played with many well known artists including Sister Sledge, Shakin' Stevens and Rolf Harris to name a few! He now takes his role of 'Honeyboy', however, very seriously slaving over his vintage black and chrome rhythm device while providing a bit of Honeyboy showmanship at the same time.
Paddy Joyce (bass)
.....the most laid back member of B & The Honeyboys is one of the most versatile bass players around playing anything from gospel, blues, jazz and rock to reggae, funk and pop. It's not enough that he is such a versatile player, however, being a bass player Paddy feels he must get to the bottom of everything. Thus, he has studied aural & rhythm studies, piano skills, composition as part of a music degree in Newpark School of Music, Dublin. To top it off he has played with pretty much every live band in Dublin. His facial hair has also been known to cause quite a stir with B & The Honeyboy's audiences.
B & The Honeyboys are currently touring the country and promoting their recently released album, which is available from cd baby (http://cdbaby/cd/bhoneyboys) and downloadmusic.ie. Mixing their aforementioned love of Blues with funk, Rock n' Roll and even Gospel influences, their songs inject a freshness and vitality into the Blues/Roots genre, sounding at once traditional and contemporary. B & The Honeyboys perform as a duo and with a full band.

Influences: Nina Simone, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mavis Staples, Ann Peebles, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, The Rolling Stones ...
Sounds Like: A mixture of Blues, funk and R&B. Sounding at once traditional and contemporary.

HOTPRESS:'McEvoy has a kick-ass, full-on electric guitar style for which the word gritty might have been specially coined. Mythen is a real discovery, her bluesy voice filling your head with pure soul as she gets under the skin of the songs and sings them from the inside out. 'I Miss You' is a raspy rocker with the two in fine harmony mode, and backed by a fine rhythm section ;'Hang My Head' is a slower, raunchier affair, but the real killer is 'Hard to Believe', a touch of country edging the raw blues amid stirring organ from Podge Kilbride.'

....'Further proof that white folk can sing the blues, and no fake accents either'...(Jackie Hayden - HOTPRESS MAGAZINE)

BLUESBUNNY:'Ireland? This band are from Ireland? The Bluesbunny ears thought they were being deceived. Surely this band was from Chicago. But no, they are indeed from Ireland. B (also known as Aileen Mythen) is a rather fine singer. She has that polished style that makes it all seem so easy. Add some tasty guitar courtesy of Kieran McEvoy and you know that this album is going to work out just fine.'

..'To think that people revere the plastic pop princesses when the real deal is to be found right in front of you...'

WEXFORD ECHO:'Their recent album, which includes an array of original songs, including a mix of Blues, Funk, Rock n’ Roll and Gospel influences, has been a real hit. ‘Set My Heart on Fire’ ebbs the band into the realm of gospel and funk, where the gospel is intermittent with a rather funky stirring organ from Podge Kilbride. Since their basis is primarily blues I can only imagine that they will be incredible live.'

....'The album certainly has a crispy edge to it, and is rather like listening to an old Robert Johnson - it is raw!'
LIMERICK EVENT GUIDE:'B has an 'extraordinary Blues/Gospel voice which hits all the right notes with sass and flair and plenty of oomph. These guys aren't playing on the trend for pop songs that harp back to the big band days.

....'they are a big band with the big vocals to pull it off'..... (LEG)
