About Me

Lynne Davis has spent the past seventeen years living in Los Angeles and working alongside the best musicians the city has to offer. She has earned a reputation as a musician's musician; contributing her aggressive, groove-oriented bass playing to countless studio performances and live engagements, and also lending her dynamic and widespread piano playing and production skills to numerous recordings for film, television and popular records.

Living in Los Angeles has had a profound influence on Lynne's approach to playing popular music. Having learned her craft through working primarily with songwriters, she forged a strong sense of service to the tune early on in her career. But the experiences she garnered while living in LA led her to simplify and distinguish her musical ideas even further, making her one of the first-call players for songwriters and composers.

It was while living and working in Los Angeles that Lynne discovered her passion for the rhythm and blues music that she had always heard at the local swim club while growing up. Intrigued by the elements of time and feel, Lynne realized she had truly found her niche in her ability to interpret the works of the great bassists of that genre, such as James Jamerson and Donald "Duck" Dunn. Lynne's abilities in this arena led Bass Player Magazine to refer to her as "LA's Groove Goddess" in it's July 1999 feature article about her.

To give her newfound passion an outlet, Lynne helped create Los Angeles' own R&B super group The Scarletts, who have performed all over California to rave reviews. The Los Angeles Times headline of one such review reads, "Hearing is Believing", and the author of which is quoted as saying, "A direct measure of the groups credibility...is the caliber of the pros they draw to listen and sit in." Indeed, many of the industry's top professionals have been eager to share the bandstand with The Scarletts, including members of such groups as Tower of Power, Chaka Kahn, Bill Withers, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Taj Mahal, Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder, to name but a few.

In 2009, Lynne performed as the bassist for the musical "Baby It's You", a story about the career of Florence Greenberg and the Sceptor Record label, playing at the Coast Playhouse in West Hollywood. "Baby It's You" producer Richard Perry likes to refer to Lynne as, "...the female Duck Dunn."In addition, Lynne shares her passion for teaching as an inaugural instructor at the Los Angeles Music Academy, a position she has held for 14 years. Always eager to share ideas about teaching and music, Lynne was asked to become the "Music Theory Dominatrix" for Bass Guitar Magazine, and is also currently writing for Bass Frontiers, an online bass magazine. She is also a product spokesperson for the Fender Corporation representing the Fender B-Dec, and was featured in Fender's 2008 Catalogue.Lynne also has plans to release a recording of solo piano pieces in late 2009 on the Dreamweaver Label.
