About Me

ROZELLE ARTISTS GUILD, INC.
is the focused goal of a group of freethinkers embodied in a derelict warehouse near Cooper-Young. The majority of us are affiliated with the Memphis College of Art. We live in this city and absorb its culture, and have turned it back out into Memphis through this endeavor. We aim to prove college-aged kids can organize well, operate a business diplomatically, and affect change.
The property at 822 Rozelle was originally a large industrial warehouse, and at one time housed a group of radical artists who attempted to do something similar to our own initiative. They have since moved on, and the property has sat stagnantly on the corner of Evelyn & Rozelle waiting for someone to fix it up or knock it over.
We're trying to do the former.
We as a group are creative, hardworking, and problem-solving, which is precisely what the building is in need of. Instead of it turning into a strip of identical houses, or an apartment building, we'd like to see it become a haven for artists and community members alike. Our original idea of a simple artists co-op has evolved into plans for rentable studio space, a self-sufficient garden, an indoor or outdoor music venue, computer lab, library, kilnroom, venue, and darkroom. Through the united efforts of a substantial group of people, the building will become a breathing, functioning, self-sustaining lifeform.
We are now a state-recognized non-profit organization. We are pursuing federal 501(c)(3) non-profit tax exemption. The building itself, however, is a much bigger task. We are still hosting fundraisers to aid in the repairs of the warehouse. Every dollar we spend, and every hour each person works, means money off the asking price of the building.
If you are interested in our endeavor, send us a message or leave us a comment. We are seeking committed individuals who are interested in working hard, and acting cooperatively for a bigger cause.
