michael hornek started playing piano at the age of 4. when he was 12 he wanted to play drums, and practiced about 8 hours a day, until his fingers got bloody....somebody needed a double bass player, so he try to play bass for one year, which wasn..t very successful because he didn..t have such powerful arms. anyway he went through tirolean marchingbands, playing timpani, drums, percussion and keyboards, trumpet and french horn. he played in symphony orchestras as well as in little classical groups like a piano duo with patrick lechner. they got the second price in the national competition in the year 1994 or something. at the age of 17 he decided to move to linz, fucked classical music and play only jazz for a long time. after different fusion and jazz, rock and coverbands he got the hans koller new york stipendium in the year 2001. he lives from playing gigs, not very good, but ok. after all, he..s familiar to different instruments, and this fact makes him very flexible, but people might get pissed off, because he never calls any guitar- or bassplayer to play a song in his little studio, he tries until he can play it by himself. and because his english is not that good he stops writing now...
