Next Thursday August 14 will be 20 years since Roy Buchanan was locked up for public intoxication in Fairfax County, Virginia. He was almost a month away from 50 years of age.
They found him a few hours later hung by his own shirt, His family, and friends who knew him well say he never would have done that. He had a new wife and a baby so it wasn't likely. I don't know of any investigation that ever took place. Check out his blues guitar playing on this number - he could make a person weep with his playing. I have a custom made Telecaster guitar that looks exactly like Buchanan's, however mine is from the 80s and his is a 1953 Fender Telecaster. Too cool!
I saw him twice in Atlanta in the 70s and he was incredible. However you got there Roy, may you Rest In Peace free of the blues!
Pause the music on my Playlist box, click on the Youtube arrow, and get ready for the blues!!!
The song is The Messiah Will Come Again.
As you see below, I've added a Playlist music player. I did searches for some of the more bizzare songs I could think of and Playlist actually had them. A couple of the Frank Zappa numbers is what I'm refering to! Don't be offended - it's all in fun. I'm going to keep changing the songs around so there will be something different to check out when you come visit. Thanks for stopping by!
I like all the musicians listed and have some sort of special attachmnet to all of the musicians and songs that I'll add. Jerry Garcia, Frank Zappa and Warren Zevon are on the other side now but they live on through their music. May they have the peace that passes understanding and be jamming when I arrive!
I play guitar - electric, acoustic, Dobro, and bass. I pluck on a Kalimba and own a variety of indigenous percussion instruments. I screech on the violin now and then. I trained for two weeks on a Hammered Dulcimer at John Campbell Folks School in Brasstown, N.C.
While I was there I went to Murphy, N.C. and had my photo taken at the dumpster where Eric Rudolph, the bomber, was arrested. I didn't see anything that looked good to eat in there!
This year I studied for a week in Bluegrass Performance at Campbell. My fingertips felt like ground beef after two days! I got in 50 hours guitar and Dobro practice and did a singing solo and Dobro solo at our final performance.
I've been married to Aimee for 5 years. I have four great kids. David, 4, is a bundle of love, joy, and energy. Just when I thought I was getting old, he helped me recapture my youth. Katie, 13, has always been my little angel. She is fun and full of energy. She has grown from a cute little girl to a beautiful young woman. She is now my Teen Angel. Robert, 16, has always pretended to enjoy my dissertations and diatribes on the true meaning of life, and our purpose while being here a very short time. He loves me in spite of my shortcomings and has yet to buck up on me! Ronnie, 22, has a heart of gold and unfailing loyalty. He is learning how to tell who is worthy of his undying love. He has chosen a rough path but will be fine - I was a little slow to come around myself. What a spread in ages, eh? Our kids teach us lots about Love and show us what this whole thing is about. Our children are mirror reflections of us!!!
I love all types of music and musicians. The man in my slide show with the double neck guitar is my friend Denny Walley playing with Ike Willis in Project Object. They both played with Frank Zappa. It was a great show! That's me in the middle next to the upright bass.

Aimee and I have tried various plans for losing weight - they usually last about two weeks. Until last Fourth of July. We finally got fed up with the whole starvation thing. The short version is that Aimee is down 48 lbs, I've lost 42, and Katie is down about 20. We all feel great and have never gone hungry. The stuff we craved faded quickly when we realized how crappy it was making us feel, plus seeing the weight peel off so quickly. I went to my Dr. and had a complete blood count. My Doctor said to keep doing what I am doing. I gave him the details of the plan and he blessed it for me!

I started a Band site here on Myspace. It's the name of one of my old bands. I'd include the name but I'm vain enough to think someone my steal it - it's quite an original idea. It's a surprise so you'll have to wait till I get some songs loaded!
Music Trivia and Inspiration:
I finally took down the great Emilylou Harris song, A Love That Never Grows Old. Do you think everything grows old with time? It will if you don't nourish it and exercise it. I've left the Love Hurts trivia as I have had no takers yet!
Back to the unanswered trivia:
One of my favorite songs is a duet Emmylou Harris sang with Gram Parsons, who met an untimely death at 26 years of age from morphine and alcohol on September 19, 1973. The morphine dose would not have been enough to kill an addict but Gram over estimated his tolerance. Gram was from Waycross, Georgia and is attributed with starting the Country/Rock genre. The song is Love Hurts and the album with it was released the year after Grams' death, my graduation year. This version is from a touching tribute to Gram.
Most people know that song through Nazareth. It was actually written by a couple in the 50s who started out writing songs in a trailer in Shellman, a little town in South Georgia.
They were turned away by publishers and musicians time and again but never quit. Finally, they had a song picked up by a popular musician of the time and gradually rose to legendary status. Love Hurts was recorded by Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers, Cher, Keith Richards and Norah Jones (check that out on Youtube - he looked like toast but sang well!), Nazareth, and many more. When I get discouraged and feeling down I always remember their story of hope, perseverance, and the wonders that time and patience works!
Never stop pushing ahead and keep your faith strong in God, yourself, and those that return your Love!!!
You get extra points if you can tell me who this couple is!
Meanwhile, enjoy this version by Nazareth from 1974, my graduation year! It was a big hit at the time. The funny thing is most of us were clueless to what love meant in High School. It should have been Lust Hurts! LOL!!! Then again, it seems as if some people far down the path of life still don't get it! If you can't relate to the song you have not been in love! This comes with bad 70s hair but great vocals!
