About Me

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a common endocrine disorder that effects roughly 10% of women. This percentage may be higher as many women go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Among many metabolic dysfunctions that occur for women with PCOS,there are also hormonal disfunctions. Endocrine (or hormone)dysfunctions, cause a myriad of related health problems for the patient such as, menstral irregularites, inability to conceive, and weight problems.PCOS was first intoduced in 1935, and there are still many facets of this complex syndrome that are unknown. These unknown facets are in areas of etiology and dysfunctions between hormones and metabolism. Just as important but even less known, are the psychological and behavioral consequences of such a disorder. These behaviors can involve feelings such as despression, body image problems, anxiety, and sexual dysfunctions. More knowledge of all the physical and psychological facets with enable PCOS sufferers to have control of their own healthcare by knowing more about their bodies.
