About Me

Beulah began her musical journey in grade six at a school concert. Finding the experience both stimulating and challenging, she then proceeded to spend the next eighteen years experimenting with various genres like opera, musical theatre and world music at amateur and professional levels.Beulah has performed as a dancer/ singer in African troupes Blue Turban and Wulaba, and has sung with jazz groups like Cookin’ on Three Burners and The Pearly Shells. Her latest acting stint was in Sartre’s “No Exit”.With world fusion group, Jadida, Beulah has been able to incorporate her African and bellydancing skills into successful performances at festivals like Port Fairy music festival, Melbourne Jazz Festival and the Globe to Globe World Music Festival as well as a range of venues and events. Beulah also recorded her debut album “World Confusion” with Jadida, through the assistance of the Australia Council. However, having harboured a love for jazz, blues and soul music for quite some time, Beulah began her own band with partner, Paul Holleman, the founder of Jadida. Inspired by the music of Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Erykah Badu, India Arie and many others, Beulah and her band have created a sound that not only pays homage to these music greats but which also reflects this band’s own unique charisma and talent. Beulah is currently writing her next album with Paul Holleman.Beulah has recently created a children’s show led by character, AfroFairy. AfroFairy takes children on an educational music adventure around the world, learning about different cultures and musical genres in a fun, engaging yet informative way. Beulah also performs as a roving character named the BandAid Queen who is an expert on all things sore.In addition, Beulah runs singing and music workshops for children, teenagers and adults. She has run workshops at schools, events and festivals. I edited my profile at Freeweblayouts.net , check out these Myspace Layouts!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.beulahjoseph.com
Band Members: Paul Holleman - composer and player of keyboards, alto and soprano saxophones
Influences: Having travelled all around the world, Paul brings a range of influences to his composing. Notorious for complicated arrangements and rhythms, working with Paul can stretch you as much as Mr. Elastic from the Fantastic Four. My sorry excuse for angst-ridden lyrics is at this stage unknown. I do try to write about love but Paul doesn't like the Mills & Boon touch. I guess that's when I revert to angst.
Sounds Like: Me! But possibly a combination of Erykah Badu, Etta James, India Arie and other such vocalists.
Record Label: Unsigned

I lied

Ok I lied. It has been ages since our last gig. We've revamped ourselves, have included some originals and are working towards recording another album. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a new era.

Thank you all you loyal fans for coming to our gig. We promise not to take so long before our next performance. It was a very cosy evening that easily revved up after a few Aretha numbers. Our most de...
