I am here for Networking

About Me

Lake Cowal is an ephemeral wetland(periods of drying and flooding) that supports over 277 species of birds as well as many reptiles like turtles and frogs, emus, kangaroos, echidnas, goannas and lizards... Lake Cowal is the heartland of the Wiradjuri Nation, it is comparable to a church or a mosque for the Wiradjuri Nation. Lake Cowal is protected under two international Agreements JAMBA and CAMBA, Japan/China Australian Migratory Bird Agreement. It is listed on the National Register as a significant wetland. It is in the Centre of the Murray Darling Basin and is part of an intricate network of rivers, creeks, lakes and wetlands spanning across the Central West and the Riverina to the Murrumbidgee and the Murray Rivers. There is a Native Title claim on the area where Barricks Lake Cowal Gold mine has in the meantime commenced full scale production, despite the claim... The claim is still unresolved in the courts and is due to be heard later in 2007. The Native Title claimants have been fighting tooth and Nail for nearly ten years to stop the destruction of their sacred Lake... to stop the killing of a culture, an ecosytem and a sanctuary.Barrick Gold, Canadian based multinational, have started full scale mining of gold on the edge of Lake Cowal. They are bringing in just over 6,000 tonnes of Cyanide, a deadly chemical, to the Lake every year. The cyanide is transported from Gladstone Qld to the Lake through over 20 water catchment areas.Barrick have License to use well over 17 Million Litres of Water a day, the water table below Lake Cowal has dropped 35 metres in two years!!!!.. You should create your own MySpace Layouts like me by using nUCLEArcENTURy .COM's MySpace Profile Editor !

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Anyone interested in standing up to Barrick Gold, other multinational corporations and the Governments involved in facilitating the destruction of Lake Cowal... the wetlands, the habitat, the geology and hydrology of the Lake and the destruction and removal of artefacts, scar trees and people from that land.
