CHAQUIS MALIQ

Chaquis Maliq (Sha-Keese Malik), Songstress, Producer and Writer, Born and raised in the liberal city of San Francisco, CA, began her passion in music by singing in her church choir. Being that her Grandfather started his own church, her mother sang in the church choir, and her father was a lead singer in a gospel quartet group; Chaquis was able to develop her talents naturally. Surrounded by diverse voices and acoustic intruments, Chaquis began to pick up different singing styles and playing instruments such as the piano and drums by ear and by site. Secular local groups such as: En Vogue, Toni Tony Tone, Sly and the Family Stones, and Brothers Johnson, have all been a part of her influences as well as Patrice Rushen, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, The Isley Brothers, New Birth, Areatha Franklin and Rufus and Chaka Khan. As a teenager two artists caught Chaquis' attention. The heart felt, hip hop, lyrical genious, diva, Lauryn Hill and the acoustic, angelic and matriarch of genuine music, Jill Scott; Chaquis was convinced that her talent would one day be heard. To began this process, She began to participate in spoken word, talent shows and poetry slams in San Francisco. She then co-founded a poetry group named Sable Vitality at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School. Sable Vitality began an open mic once a week during lunch time. This allowed her to develop her stage presents and for her peers to discover her talents. Shortly after high school Chaquis began turning her poetry into songs and performing them. Since relocating to the East Coast, she has been chopping and mixing beats, producing original music for her albulm, singing and writing hooks for local artists. Chaquis also, recorded, wrote, arranged and mixed her EP, "THE DEMONSTRATION VOL. I", to be released sooner than later on QuiSound Entertainment, founded by Chaquis Maliq! ..
