Fenomenon(born Gray Hemphill,IV) was born on July 27th in the Bronx, New York. He was born into a family that had a history of being hard-working, honest, and loyal to everyone that that came into contact with. At the young age of seven, Fenomenon and his family moved to Nashville, TN due to the passing of his grand-father. Throughout his elementary years, Fenomenon did the usual things that most boys of his age did:play football, race with his friends, and flirt with the girls, etc. But as early as the 5th grade, Fenomenon developed an interest for music. Due to his father’s large collection of music, Fenomenon had a lot to listen to. “Yeah, my dad had a lot of music when I was little and he still does,†says Fenomenon, “he listened to rap but when I was born he listened to people like Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, and The O’Jays just to name a few.†According to Fenomenon, he really was not listening to rap music when he was young, of course he enjoyed rap music at parties and what not, but at the end of his 5th grade year, Fenomenon found a cassette tape that would forever change his life and his way of thinking. “It was in the middle of the summer, and I was just looking through my dad’s music when I saw The Notorious B.I.G’s Ready To Die album at the bottom of one of the crates. I remembered when this guy was killed, but at the time I was too young to understand anything he talked about you know. I just remembered the hype behind his name.†Fenomenon listened to the tape and fell in love with this type of lyricism. “Jay-Z was starting to become real big around that time so that’s who I was listening to.†He was also listening to people like Nas, Fabolous, and Busta Rhymes, and by the end of the 6th grade, Fenomenon grabbed the pen and pad and got to work!! Due to the fact that Fenomenon was living in the south, he was able to get a taste of southern culture, but he kept in touch with his roots and every-time he opens up his mouth to rhyme people know where he’s from. “You know I’m from the birth of hip-hop ya digg??(SHOUT-OUT TO THE BOOGIE-DOWN!!!, FROM FORDHAM TO CO-COP CITY, TO SOUNDVIEW AND ELSEWHERE!!!!) The Bronx, New York started this whole thing, on the corner of Sedgwick n Cedar you know!! So I had to continue holdin it down for my borough.†By the 7th grade, he had his first rap battle and SLAUGHTERED the contender and generated a buzz at the high school he attended that contains grades 7-12. By the 8th grade he put out a mixtape with the Street Crew, but soon left to do his own thing which sparked controversy between him and the group who were Young Trav, John Dozier, and T.B. “When I left the group it was peaceful ya know, but after a while people started spreading rumors and shit talking about how I said I wrote all their stuff, and I said I left because I was better than them and people were just spreading shit ya digg. This gossip led to a series of battles between him and The Street Crew. With no one in his corner to help him, Fenomenon held his own and triumphed over his competition. “Everything was settled and were cool now, but that just showed me the attitude of certain types of people when you start doing something your good at and people start noticing. Now that I look back on that all those people who were spreading those rumors were just hatin on not only me but the Crew (Street Crew) as well.†If people could become jealous and hate on you because your good at what you do, Fenomenon knew that there would be a lot more of this down the road. A year later he battled a couple of well-known people in downtown Nashville and is now generating a heavy buzz behind his name and is bound to blow. Fenomenon is fully focused and ready to take the world by storm. Due to the fact that this young cat comes from a family of hard workers, Fenomenon is very business oriented and plans on taking his career throughout the entertainment business. He loves the ladies and always shows love to them. But this kid is going somewhere. “I’m a lyricist and I’m tryna bring that back in the game and bring New York back. I got love for the south and I love hot music no matter where it comes from but I just think it’s time for New York to get our swag back the right way ya dig!!!!!
