The Himalayan Film School will provide training and education in film and communications for emerging Tibetan, Indian and other Himalayan talents. Initially the teaching will take the form of seminars, masterclasses and interactive workshops given by visiting film professionals in India or Nepal. The courses will last from 3 days to 3 weeks, and tutors will return at intervals to provide continuity and progression. Students are free to return and develop their studies, or to attend individual courses on a one-off basis. By keeping admission fees to a minimum, or totally free of charge, the teachings will be open to the widest possible audience. If students wish to give additional donations they are very welcome to do so. The courses will be hands-on and highly practical, with all necessary equipment coming through donations. The tutors will be able to select smaller groups of students for closer development and mentoring. Further into the process students will have the opportunity to make complete feature films and documentaries. The tutors will donate their time and expertise by teaching for free, and the students will help support the school by becoming involved in its organisation and administration. The visiting tutors will range from internationally acclaimed scriptwriters, producers, directors, actors and editors to specialist technicians, camera operators and distributors. They will all be there to contribute to the development of Himalayan Cinema through sharing their own stories and talents. Students will gain an in-depth insight into the methods, approaches and working processes of the tutors, and carry this inspiration back into their own filmmaking.
