ABOUT THE MARS PATROL
~How long have y'all known each other?
Davina: Ross and I have know each other the longest about 3years, Stephen I also knew back then but we were not in the band together. Matt is the newest member, known him for about five months.
~How did y'all meet?
Davina: Ross, Stephen and myself met in a recording studio. You will need to watch one of our videos blogs to see how we all met Matt ;)
~Do you favor certain venues? If so which?
Davina: Yeah I guess all venues have there pros and cons. I like to have a nice high stage as i'm not very tall! We aim to travel far and play a lot more venues around the World!
~Do you ever play any covers?
Davina: No not gone down that road. I want to keep writing our own material.
~Do you have a set play list or do you change it up?
Ross: We normally work out a set, it's fun to change it around though, sometimes on stage we'll play a song earlier or later in the set depending on the vibe...it just feels right that way.
~What are your rehearsals like?
Davina: Good fun, it's a time to really experiment with the songs and try new things out. Sometimes we rehearse at my house and sometimes we go to a studio. Usually what happens is, Ross and I will have been working on something and so we introduce it to Stephen & Matt, and then we all work on it and knock it into shape! We are all dedicated and share a similar sense of musical direction and so the songs unfold in a natural TMP way.
~What is the origin of your band name (The Mars Patrol)?
Stephen: We liked the name and we like space!
~What has your biggest challenge been as a band?
Ross: I think one of our biggest challenges was managing to find the right drummer who fits well into TMP! We searched the globe until we found him :)
DAVINA
~Who/What are your major influences?
People like yourself are my influence! I get lots of inspiration from the people who come out to see us play. I enjoy lots of styles of music :) I find taking a trip away abroad is good for inspiration. I appreciate the Arts, I studied Art & Graphic Design at University. I have always had a creative personality.
~What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like to watch films, I enjoy going to see other bands play. Socialising with the friends. I love animals. I love food! I enjoy how some foods compliment each other really well, like Brie and Cranberry lol!
~What advice do you have for people who want to form their own band?
Having a strong writing core in the band is essential, its good to have at least one person who you can bounce your ideas off. Once you get going writing some songs you will learn lots about yourself and then you can teach other people your vision. People are attracted to confidence and you will find that others will want to play in your band. Maintain a focus and don't let egos get in the way, that can ruin things for some bands.
ROSS
~Who/What are your major influences?
Musically I like anything that has a good melody. I wouldn't say I have any major influences, I just create what I like to hear. My other influences are our fans and the ones who make our awesome fan sites!
~What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like to eat Japanese food!
~What has your biggest personal challenge been so far?
Exams when I was at school, but I did it!
~What advice do you have for people who want to form their own band?
Just do it! Don't think too much about it and don't let anyone put you off the idea or tell you that what you are doing is not good.
