The Beach Toys project starts in January 2006 when three members of the band decided to meet every week at home to harmonize. They sudden realized how the vocal and instrumental arrangements of the Californian band, made by the pure genius of Brian Wilson, can be difficult. Since the Beach Boys are highly underrated (expecially in Italy) they thought: “Why shouldn't we perform some of their songs? Why shouldn't we share their beauty? After many troubles the band found its definitive lineup (it’s not so easy to manage a band of 8 players in which 5 of them sing) performing a set list close to the one nowadays Brian Wilson performs with his band. Although three of the members are not "natural born" singers, the joy coming out of the songs, their structure and the related effects on the audience and on the players surely makes the job less hard. The Beach Toys are NOT the Beach Boys!. It’s only a band of guys who wants to proove their love for a kind of music which never dies…They also play their own songs in a pure Beach Boys style, with lyrics reflecting their disappointment for the troubled state of italian society. The Beach Toys performed in the “Giornata dell’attivismo†organized by Amnesty International. They also performed in one of the most renowned italian radio programm the so-called “Controfestivalâ€, broadcasted by Controradio, Bari (It).Il gruppo nasce nel Gennaio 2006 quando, uniti dalla voglia di saggiare le armonie del genio di Brian Wilson, tre non meglio identificati membri della band si incontrano ogni settimana in casa (con grande gioia dei vicini) per armonizzare. Da lì scoprono la complessità degli arrangiamenti sia vocali che strumentali, e decidono di impegnarsi in un progetto più serio.
Dal momento che i Beach Boys sono un gruppo assolutamente sottovalutato (ma è cosa solo italiana) si sono detti: “Perché non portare in giro alcune delle canzoni che molti conoscono e che non sanno essere dei BB? Perché non condividere la loro bellezza?
Dopo faticose ricerche la band si stabilizza (non è affatto facile gestire una band di 8 elementi di cui 5 cantano) ed avvia la ricerca di un repertorio, in linea con le performance che Brian Wilson attualmente mette in scena.
Anche se 3 su 5 non sono propriamente “cantanti†la spensieratezza dei brani, la loro logica costruttiva e l’effetto che creano su chi li esegue e chi li ascolta fa affrontare l’oneroso confronto con gli originali con spirito rilassato e rispettoso.
I Beach Toys NON sono i Beach Boys (magari!!!!!!). E’ solo un gruppo di ragazzi che vuole rendere omaggio, a modo suo, ad una musica che ha passato la prova degli anni….
In questo senso non si esclude in futuro (non molto lontano) di creare dei pezzi propri, magari in stile e con tematiche adeguate….chi vivrà vedrà .
