With deep roots in early American Blues and jazz, Bryony Morgan inhabits an exotic realm of smoky blues and swamp-rock. Her slow-cooked new RnB recording with her band, The Megalomaniacs, draws on the deepest of yearnings and human experience, so creating an original take on a traditional sound.
The recent self titled debut EP "Bryony Morgan and the Megalomaniacs†borrows from rock and experimental music, and ventures deep into the flip side of the Blues as Bryony Morgan rides the waves of desire, betrayal and self-doubt.
"Bryony's strong songwriting and expressive voice serve to set her apart from the current pack of roots revivalists." Matthew Frederick, PBS"
Formed mid-2008 after Morgan’s return from Berlin, the Megalomaniacs comprise guitarist Ben Oastler, drummer Jarrod Biesmann and bassist Andy Foskett, all plucked from the flourishing live music scene of Lismore.
When Morgan and Oastler combined songwriting talents, they soon discovered the different styles of Biesmann and Foskett were the perfect foil for their rock-influenced, experimental blues. Collectively drawing from the iconic influences of Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Neil Young, Mark Lanegan, Nina Simone and Jim Morrison.
Morgan received early recognition for her idiosyncratic sound and songwriting craft with the 2005 release of her solo EP 'Little Blues Singer,' which led to her performing at numerous festivals around Australia, recognition at the Jaxter Artists Awards as well as solid airplay on Triple R, ABC National, 3CR, SYN FM and Planet Radio, Brisbane.
This accomplished performer announces a new musical direction with the Megalomaniacs, whose poetic lyrics and soaring vocals are sure to make a profound impact on the Australian live music scene.
'Bryony Morgan and the Megalomaniacs’ debut self-titled EP was released in April 2009.
“With a fusion of Rock, Jazz, Funk and Blues, Bryony Morgan, is breaking all the rules by crossing genres, in a way that will undoubtedly take her to the top of charts in no time.†Lee Koumarianos, Music Industry Photographer
