EDDY MORTON
Eddy Morton is a Stourbridge based singer songwriter . Former frontman with The Bushburys he now runs Katie Fitzgeralds (with his partner Trina Keane) and New Mountain Music. Inspired to write by his interest in the early 20th century poetry of Spender , Auden , Macneice and Larkin it was only later that he was drawn towards music by the likes of Donovan, Led Zeppelin and in particular Roy Harper, Eddy Mortons business is words and the images they create . Often hard to pigeonhole his songs are like chapters in a whole story yet to unfold . As a solo performer, Eddy Morton has worked all over the UK, Ireland and the USA supporting many top acts including Ruby Turner, The Saw Doctors, Manfred Mann, Ralph Mctell and Lindisfarne. In 1992 he joined Factory Records band, the Adventure Babies working with Steve Lillywhite of U2 fame.In 1994 he was a founder member of The New Bushbury Mountain Daredevils and throughout eleven years, 8 albums and many line up and name changes has appeared at every major Folk/Roots Festival in the UK and Europe. These include Cambridge, Cropredy, Skagen, Guildford, Dranouter, The Badentreffen (Nuremburg) and many more.During this time the band continually toured the UK and Europe with their last two albums "Trying to Catch the Sun" and "Timeless" released throughout Europe. "The Vision" taken from Trying to Catch the Sun appeared on the Warner Brothers compilation "Highlands and Islands 2" alongside artists such as The chieftains, Luka Bloom, and Van Morrison.
SPLATT!!
The music of Splatt is inspired by the landscapes of the Malvern Hills and surrounding area. Through the songs of Martin Roy Thorne (see the friends list below), Paul Beadle, William Shakespeare and various traditional ballads they explore the pagan /celtic roots of English and Irish Folk, using traditional ethnic and modern instruments to create an epic soundscape that is truly part of an emerging New Tradition .
Our new album, PRIMAL HORDES AND PARTISANS, is available now! It can be purchased directly from the band, and will soon be available to download and buy online. Watch this space... In the meantime, if you really can't wait... send us a message and we'll forward an order form to you via email.
BEN SMITH
Ben is a Birmingham born songwriter who has been performing and recording for 20 years. His music is an earthy blend of British and American folk styles expressed through rapid fire fingerpicked guitar and a unique heartworn vocal delivery. Often compared to Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle and Shane Macgowan Ben's songs convey the hurts , joys and absurdities of life, often informed by his Welsh/Romany Gypsy heritage.( Ben is a direct descendant of King Esau and Queen Henty of the Black Patch Gypsies.) As a live performer Ben is as much a storyteller as a musician and has delighted audiences around the world.
TIMOTHY PARKES
Timothy Parkes The Irish-English boy, son of an Irish nurse, and a Black Country engineer as a father. Music in the blood, poetry in the mind, he sways through life, with a thoughtful heart.A travelling minstrel by trade, and passionate to the core. All that witness him are left reeling in his sounds, and connected to his guile.Adventure. Having secured the respect of esteemed musician, Gary Lucas, co-writer of the magical Jeff Buckley "Grace" album, Timothy travelled the raging seas to New York, to perform at Gary Lucas’ request, performing two headline shows at The Knitting Factory, and getting airtime on WFNU; CHUO; and Kiac Radio, with solid plug in Time Out Magazine, and the famous Greenwich "Village Voice" earning the respect of established acts all over the world. On his return, he opened proceedings at Mr. Lucas’ hailed show at the legendary 12Bar club in Camden, receiving rave reviews, and much kudos from the tightly-packed audience.Just one man, one guitar, made to sound like an incendiary chorus of instruments, with a little of Timothy’s secret ingredient -passion.Soon to dominate the freak scene near you. Timothy Parkes is a passion that is here to stay. And you will hear him soon.Steve T. The Boogaloo
HIGHWAY DAVE & THE VARMINTS
'I like your sound, its a mix of Honky-tonk, the Burritos and the Byrds' - when guitar supremo Albert Lee gives a compliment like that, you just gotta take notice. Add the spirit of Johnny Cash and a dash of Worcestershire sauce and you'll have some idea what these Varmints are about. The band have this month completed work on their new album Bucket Town, slated for release in September . Bucket Town was recorded and produced by ex-Decca and Stax veteran Dave Williams at his Norfolk based Grange Studios, which specialises in delivering great authentic results for blues and roots artists through the use of top quality analogue tape equipment.
