YIANNIS KATEVAS was born and raised in Northern Greece. He began his professional career at the young age of 16 as vocalist and lead guitarist of the pop group “The Beatniksâ€. Some time later in the Folk genre, Yiannis was mentored by the renowned composer Giorgos Mitsakis who ushered him threw the doors of the guarded music industry and wrote his first 2 songs for Columbia Records.
In 1977 He broke out to his new found national audience with his hit LP “An Ginotaneâ€. Since that time in his prolific career he has released 15 full length albums, many of which have gone gold. Giving us hit singles such as: Ta Giasemakia sou - Na m’ Agapas Tora - An Mou Harisoun - Ehis Niata - Kati Parapano - Pios… - Ne gia Sena Ne - Zoi mou Eine - Gia sou Ellada - and too many more to mention.
Yiannis has always been “the complete artistâ€. Apart from singing he also plays guitar and has written the majority of the music in his recordings. He has collaborated with many other singers of his stature such as, Bithikotsis, Dionyssiou and Parios (to mention just a few) and has performed in the major venues of Athens, Thessaloniki and the rest of Greece with overwhelming success.
His domestic career can only be rivalled by his foreign popularity. Playing sell out shows all over America, Canada, Australia and Europe, all the while delighting audiences not only in Greek but also in English, French, Italian and Spanish.
The CD’s “Gia sou Ellada†and “Kai Horevi e Ellada†are his latest endeavours in the Folklore genre and a celebration of traditional dance music. The song “Gia sou Ellada†from the album of the same name has become a national anthem for all Greeks abroad.
