Chinmoy & Adrian

About Me

Chinmoy & Adrian are based out of Ames, Iowa and began playing/writing in the summer of 2004. The band originally consisted of a drummer, with Adrian Power on electric guitar and Chinmoy Panigrahy on bass. When asked to do a "toned down" performance at the Boheme Bistro in Ames, an acoustic set without drums was worked out in which only guitars and banjo were used. The line-up has remained a duo ever since.

Band Website: Chinmoy & Adrian
Band Members: Adrian Power: Guitar/Vocals, Chinmoy Panigrahy: Guitar/Banjo
Influences: ADRIAN: My parents listened to (and as a result I was exposed to, at a formative age) The Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Bowie, Grand Master Flash, Janice Joplin, Miles Davis. At least these are some of the records that exist in my families cardboard history. I dont actually recall listening to them though they now sound familiar and comforting. Exploring music on my own, Nirvana led me into such artists as The Dead Kennedys and The Butthole Surfurs. Eventually...well I guess Ill just list some bands I really enjoy. R.L Burnside, Skip James, Elmore James, Iron and Wine, Ravi Shankar, Snapcase, Nick Drake, Bjork, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Belle and Sebastian, DJ Shadow, DJ Spookie, Hank Williams, Tom Waits, John Hammond...man, so many more. I know I forgot essential ones. Maybe Ill add more later. Maybe not.CHINMOY: I started off listening to a lot of heavier/louder/faster music as a teenager and as I began playing the guitar, I got into instrumental guitar music as well as improv/jam bands and eventually jazz. Nowadays , I'm inspired by artists like Interpol, Oh My God, Iron and Wine, Coldplay, Miles Davis, Radiohead, Nick Drake, The Killers, The Rapture, Charlie Hunter, Gorillaz, Segovia, Bjork, Ravi Shankar, Portishead, John Scofield, John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Sounds Like: Comparisons to Nick Drake or Iron and Wine have been made.

August 30 show

For those of you who are unaware, Adrian had an unfortunate spill on his bicycle over the past weekend.  Due to this, we probably won't be performing with Shelterbelt on Tuesday, August 30. ...
