I Founded Def Jam Records in 1984 with Russell Simmons. I was affiliated with that label until 1988, when I moved to Los Angeles and founded Def American records. In 1993, when the word "def" moved out of urban slang and into the dictionary, he renamed the company American.Produced dozens of hit records for hip hop and hard rock bands alike. It was my idea for Run-DMC and Aerosmith to pair up, giving them a tremendous hit with the rap-rock call and response of "Walk This Way".
