Everyday life and struggles
Sounds Like: Sounds Like....my wordsThese are my words
In my voice, with my thoughts and emotions
And my heart that bleeds from my pen to my paper
Amplified by this mic, into your ears
That sinks into your heartsThese are my words, my synopsis of what poetry should
Sound like, my style, my flavor, my life story that signifies
My strengths and my weaknesses, my fears and my heartfelt
Notebook memoriesFrom a child embedded in me that we each have our own
History, our own future, present and destiny
Handed down to us by our descendents
Who wrote their own Negro spirituals, created their own
Way to freedom and built their own foundations and homes
For the children to someday own
Because once it’s yours no one can take it from youThey can’t rape me of the dignity and pride when I push
And I strive to abide by what I feel inside
They can’t take this joy from me and turn it into the dictionary
Term of what poetry should be
Even when on the T.V. screen, there’s nothing less nothing more
That I can be than just meBecause these are my words, my reasons of truth for what I believe in,
My light and my psalms, my overachiever diva poem
These are my words and I’m stickin’ by em’
Keep your afro centric, hip-hop persona
Nothing wrong with that if it’s what you honorBut I’ll keep my diva attitude, keep spitting my poems to
The same ole’ tune
Because these are my words that God has given to me
For me to see
The power in my faith the size of a mustard seed
These are my words, my prophecy not to be held in secrecy
To share with all humanity
Bring a sense of unity amongst the artistic communityBecause it’s not your gift, but you individuality
And these are my words
