About Me

As a youngster Rush held the record for the number of goals scored in one season, a record which would be broken by his successor Michael Owen. He made his debut as a 17 year old for Chester City in the 79-80 season he scored 14 goals which prompted the almighty Liverpool to snap him up for £300,000 he rarely got a start for Liverpool who had Kevin Keegan and John Toshack. The next season Rush became established and scored 17 goals for Liverpool, he continued to score goals for Liverpool and in 1984 he won the European cup. The following season Liverpool again reached the European cup final at Heysel, they were defeated and following the events of that game were banned from European competition. By this time he was a regular in the Welsh team.In 1987 Rush was transferred to Juventus for £3.2 million, during his time in Italy he only managed 7 goals. The following season saw him re-signed by Liverpool for £2.70 million, he remained a prolific scorer for Liverpool and he scored the record number of league cup goals as he won his last honour in 1995. The arrival of Stan Collymore limited Rush's chances at Liverpool, so he moved to Leeds on a free transfer. At Leeds Rush scored just 3 goals as age was beginning to take its effects upon him. He then moved to Newcastle where he scored just one goal against Everton in the cup.At international level Rush never played in the finals of a major championship, the closest he got was a missed penalty away from USA 94. Nonetheless Rush had an excellent goalscoring record for Wales
