I wasn't a great admirer of the musical movements of the late 70's into the 80's. Punk was too ridiculous a statement to make as was New Romantic and although both movements briefly illuminated my life I was all ways left to wonder about the posturing, gimmicks & dressing up: When you wear a uniform you all ways become a slave to the flag & badge. Rock music in all its guises held brief glimpses of promise then faded fastly although there are elements there for morphing and subtracting like with all forms of expression. Hip Hop never appeared on my radar til late on & while it served a purpose & meaning to the communities it emanates from I have to say it has slowly taken a small place inside of me for future construction & remedy. One day I will unleash my hip hop torrent, but for now that can wait.
By 1989 I had grasped some electronic music from the wealth that was all ready on offer however much of the early stuff was way too self involved: "come on, you may play a synthesizer whats with trying to be a f****n robot?" I guess you needed that much money to buy the equipment at that time the best thing to do was go the whole hog and immerse yourself in the pantomime of it all.
!989 wasn't about superstars or egos. It was about us, the common people. Fighting constraint with mounting contempt at the charade of authority there grew a rebellion of "having it large" = Acid House. Call it what you want, these ideas weren't new. As sure as the earth orbits the sun it happened before in one form or another and it will happen again, these are no illusions.
Its fair to say musically I was born in 1989, thats when I could begin to step forward and try to grasp and change and mutate the music i love.Pull up a chair, relax those shoulders, unwind yourself, all ways follow the beat and our lives intertwined between the pattern of the sound.
