BEEPS

About Me

Beeps is music made from sine waves, either actually or metaphorically. In 3 of the 4 songs posted they are actual sine waves, all from the overtone series of 10hz ("G" ish). In the last piece up there, "Wave Node Quintet" the instruments play notes at the point where a node would occur in sine waves of different periods. In the first two the dual meaning of the word "frequency" is exploited to determine the placement of the notes. Each pitch is a frequency generated by the overtones of 10hz, and occurs with a frequency relative to the other pitches in the piece at which the nodes of that wave would occur. This makes it some what of an auditory model of the quantum mechanics problem "particle in a box" with each frequency being an eigenstate in the solution set. The 3rd track, "Piece Of Cake", inverts the relationship between the frequency/pitch and the frequency/occurrence. The melody generated is in no way composed or altered, just the math. It makes a giant 7 minute palindrome with all the notes occurring simultaneously at the starting point and at the end point. Through out the whole piece, no pattern of notes is ever repeated, and the midpoint of the song acts as an axis of symmetry with the entire song playing backwards from that point. I think it makes a catch cute melody. Thanks for listening. [email protected]
