Laceration formed in 1988 in the suburbs of Chicago. Originally the band started as 4 non serious musicians, and friends, who began to play as a means to pass the time during high school. It wasn't until the addition of Steve Nicholson on guitar when things actually looked up. Starting as a thrash band, Laceration wrote very typical music for the time. It wasn't until the band decided to take things into a new direction, did people begin to take notice. The first demo released, "The Way of All Flesh" was up-tempo, and built on solid riffing. The demo is full of mistakes, and was created for fun.
in 1989, the band changed their style, drastically. The new style was doom/death (as it was later labeled as.) The band was heavily influenced by bands like Bolt Thrower and Grave, but the idea was to play this heavy, but as slowly as possible. The result was the bands demo "Scabs." Slow, sludgy, and tuned as low as the instruments would allow, the band began to write many songs in this style. Eventually, more melodies we added, a new drummer and bass player, and the name of the band then changed to Novembers Doom.
