About Me

If the name Grace O'Malley means nothing to you....then you haven't been payin' attention! Look up your pirate lore and see who the REAL scourge of the seas was in the days of Queen Bess. No, not me, you daft little loves. But at least I can honestly claim the name, thanks to my mother's wicked sense of humor. Which she kindly instilled in me, you lucky people, you. I was born in Dublin (yes, that one) to an Irish father and a Polish-American mother. Mother and Dad split when I was six, and Mother brought me 'cross the Atlantic (great bloody pond) to her relatives in Utica. She didn't keep the O'Malley name, but I did, and I struggle to keep at least a bit of the Gaelic. After college, the Syracuse area seemed appealing because of one my girlfriends grew up here, plus it was close enough that Mother couldn't complain too loudly, but far enough away that I can stand on my own feet, in peace. I've lost most of the accent, having moved so young, but sometimes I slip back to it just to offend Mother, or for a bit of fun. We lost Dad a few years back, just before I graduated with a degree in costume design. He'd always said if I got something I made on Broadway, he'd brave New York to see it. So some day, in memory of Dad...
