Once in one s lifetime a gift is given that they rarely use. This gift was bestowed upon Moni Jones
At the tender age of 4 when she performed her first concert for S.S. Dillow Elm. In Ft. Worth Texas. She had been told thru out her life that she was gifted and talented and not until the age of 12 when she started singing solos in the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Mass Choir did she take that gift seriously. She would write in her journals about the days and nights of her life as well as the heartache and pains. Once Maya "Moni"que Jones became a mother did her spirituality grow and she became conscious of the world around her eyes. She began with simple poetry that later spawned into beautifully lived lyrics. She wrote with out tones and depended on memories of music that was inside of her head with influences of Jazz like Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, And of course Lady Billy Holliday. She also was deeply rooted in soul with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, and Chaka Khan, with the high note hitters like Minnie Ripperton and Tena Marie. Her early works were with a group named S.Land D., were she lended her voice as well as writing talents. She began writing with her partner Kennan Jones in 1997 and the rest is a catalog history that is yet to be discovered. This team has been refered to as the next Ashford and Simpson of the record industry and dubbed a powerhouse of unlimited talent. Moni Jones has had the honor of working and recording with Grammy Winner Madukwu Chinwah whose early works were with Grammy Winning Erykah Badu. She has also worked with Micah Ford whom she tagged the "The Great Composer" and Tracii Chinwah, the Musical SongBird, and a host of engineers that have been nominated for grammys and work closely with the Recording Academy. Chris Bell was Moni's First engineer who would welcome her into a recording session with the great Pink Floyd theme song 'money' playing in the background. She was nervous in those days but Chris and Madukwu had a way of letting Moni know that were she belonged. Micah Ford experience was totally different yet very influential. He introduced Moni to her love of jazz, and let her experience what purging your soul on wax was all about As you are about to experience, what her mother has been knowing since she was 3 months, is that she has a story to share not just to tell but to actually let you inside of her world. She will make you cry, think, laugh, and remember a time when music was about giving and receiving, just not telling. As you listen to the lyrics, let it be known that Moni Jones is sharing her life experiences with you, the pain and even the glory.......................
