Joel Waldman es un exalumno de Berklee College of Music (2009). Procedente de Bogotá, Colombia, hijo de padres artistas (actriz y arquitecto). Aprendió a tocar el piano por sí solo a la edad de 5 y, a los 9 ya cantaba canciones publicitarias para T.V y Radio. No tardó en comenzar a escribir sus propias canciones y aprendió a tocar la guitarra: su instrumento favorito. A los 19, es contratado como cantante oficial de las Altas Fiestas de la comunidad judía de Medellín, Colombia. Se matriculó en Berklee en el 2006, tras recibir una beca y estudió el énfasis de “Contemporary Writing and Production”. En el 2007, compone la música para la obra teatral “The Trial of God”, presentada “Off Broadway” en New York y otros teatros importantes de Boston. En enero del 2009 obtuvo el 3er puesto entre los 5 ganadores del primer “Berklee Canta en Español” con su canción “Hacia Atras”. Para el show de graduación en Mayo 09, fué el encargado de escribir y dirigir las voces para el tributo a Juan Luis Guerra y dirigió “La Bilirrubina” (despues de transcribir el arreglo) con Juan Luis en el escenario. Actualmente con colegas, co-arregla y co-produce el EP de 5 canciones: “Nada es accidental” que estará proximamente a la venta.
Joel Waldman, originally from Bogotá-Colombia, graduated from Berklee College of Music (2009). A son of artists (Architect and actress), he teaches himself to play the piano at 5 years old, and at 9, he is already singing commercial music for T.V and Radio (jingles and voiceovers). It wouldn’t take long to start writing his own songs and teaches himself to play the guitar as well: his favorite instrument. At the age of 19, he is hired by the Jewish community of Medellin, Colombia, as the official Cantor (Chazan) for the high holidays. In 2006 He enrolls at Berklee after receiving a scholarship and he studied the major of “Contemporary Writing and Production”. In 2007 he composes the music of the theater play “The Trial of God” presented “Off Broadway” in NYC and other important theaters in Boston. In January 2009 he won the third place between the 5 winners of Berklee Canta es español with his song “Hacia Atras”. For the commencement concert in May 09, he was chosen to write and coordinate the Background vocals for the tribute to Juan Luis Guerra and conducted “La bilirrubina” (after transcribing the arrangement) with Juan Luis on stage. Nowadays with his peers, he is co-arranging and co-producing his 5-song EP: “Nada es accidental” which will be very soon in the market.
