Mario Lovakovic was born on November 11, 1977, in Sigmaringen, Germany. When he was five years old, he moved to Croatia and still lives there today. He began to show interest for music at an early age. He began playing the guitar at the age of twelve. In 1991, he formed his first band, where he was also the lead singer. In 1996, he began hinting a change in his musical interests and gradually shows devotion to electronic music, and becomes a DJ. Since that time he has been referred to as Umbo, his stage and nickname. His early performances were wending between funky and afro house, but gradually he made a transition towards the funk and breakbeat. He begins to work on his own production. In addition to spinning in clubs, he is in a band called Dogo Argentino, where he does the electronics and production. Joining the band, he starts a collaboration with Balatz (Goran Balen). He performs on drums and percussions, and that gives the final touch to his music. In 2007. they have signed for the label "Timewarp Music" from Greece. His sound was mainly influenced by Skeewiff, Stereo Mc's, Deee-Lite, The Quantic Soul Orchestra, James Brown, Shirley Bassey, Grace Jones, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Jestofunk, All Good Funk Alliance, Kraak & Smaak, Fort Knox Five, Dimitri from Paris, Dj Shadow, Pink Floyd, etc. At the moment he’s Dj-ing, producing and remixing.
